LR3 Air to Coil conversion.....one year later.

Would like to bump this thread and check on any updates. I have a 2008 LR3 SE with 83k miles. After the truck sits for a few hours, the front lowers. I fear that I might be at the early stages of air bag issues.

Roverandom, are you still happy with the Premium kit from AB/Roverparts? The pics look great and I really like the height that kit gives.

Another question, can the "magic orange box" that comes with the coil conversion kit be used in conjunction with the IIDTool from GAP? I'm going to purchase the IIDTool BT this week and will probably do the coil conversion when the EAS lets me know it is time. Just curious if they work together well.

As always, thanks in advance for any and all help.

Don't want to speak for who I consider the pioneer of the conversion, but you may want to scroll down the page and take a look at this since he posted there:

I'd also note that has a link to my build thread where I document some of the positives and negatives.

As far as the orange box and IID tool in conjunction goes; I flashed my coil conversion (never got the hardwire of the orange box to work, and stopped trying b/c it just leaves a red suspension light on the dash and I stopped caring about that)-my GAP tool changes/updates all were fine before and I've done some since that all have been fine too with no negative effect on what the black (orange) box flash did to remove the warning bongs but retain the terrain response.

Your lowering front end could also be the front cross link valve. Have replaced several for this and I am suspecting mine is starting to have the same issue. Only when parked facing downhill.

Mine's started dropping in the front again and if it is the front valve block, it will be the third time replacing it in just over a year. It's plastic and nowhere near the quality of the valve block that I had on my P38.

Where are we as a community when someone posits "nowhere near the quality..." of anything as it relates to a P38 :)
Sorry, I just found that far too amusing. Cross link valve links-far less so.

This is primarily when mine does it as well. I back into my driveway which has a downward slope. I'll do some research on the front valve block... is it difficult/expensive to fix?

Ha! My P38 was actually a pretty reliable truck. I did both front door lock units, the heater o-rings and a couple of air bags when I bought it and everything else was fine. I added the Carroll Rovers valves and when the compressor started to die, simply unplugged the valve block and pump and added a bit of air every other week or so. It held air so well. It was towed once when the water pump let go at 320,000 kms. The LR3 just passed that, it's at 321,000 kms now but I replaced the water pump earlier this year as a precaution.

P38's scare me. And I know how to fix them!

Valve block may be pricey but is easy to fix. Pull back the passenger front fender liner and its right behind the front bumper. I think Colin has additional issues. It's not uncommon for the reservoir valve block (when leaking internally) to back feed into the compressor when it's not running causing drain down and extra cycles including making the compressor work harder when filling and eventually wearing out your compressor.

Good thing I get a year warranty on parts We will swap another one in and the defective one will go back to the dealer. Just a bunch of wasted time for my tech friend when he could be making money on someone else's vehicle.

Help!

Your lowering front end could also be the front cross link valve. Have replaced several for this and I am suspecting mine is starting to have the same issue. Only when parked facing downhill.

So, I've decided I would like to try to replace the "Front Cross Link Valve" while I save a few pennies towards a coil conversion down the line. Does anyone have a link to a thread that covers this issue? I'm not having much luck with the search bar. Also, a link to the part needed would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to that, my IIDTool BT came in the mail today, so I'd like to enjoy the benefits of that while my EAS is still working well. Does anyone know of a good thread that discusses setting up the suspension to sit higher as well as the other modes/advantages of the IIDTool?

As always, thanks in advance for everyone's assistance.

Cheers,

Jared

The iid tool is easy to use, it gives you instructions on how to toggle through and select an increased height. You select it in mm increments, and you're done. You can save preset values as well. Just plug it in and play around with it.

Anyone here tried to clean/service a faulty valve block with any success? I think that's going to be my first step to try.

I rebuilt my front and center valve blocks last year. Once you carefully undo the screws and open up the assembly, you'll find plungers with various size o-rings and and springs. I rinsed everything out with water and let it dry before reassembling. The center valve block also has a pressure sensor that I believe should not get wet. It can be removed. In my case, I was trying to track down front suspension issues that ultimately turned out to be the driver side air spring leaking.

Does any one know what the towing capacity is for coil converted d3? I have a 2005 d3 and use it almost everyday. I go light off reading 5 or 6 times a year. In these cases I pull 3 quads and a dirt bike on a trailer. I was wondering if there is a towing capacity on coil conversions. At a 105k miles my air suspension is causing problems. The compressor was replaced a few years ago. That's all that was done so far.

Should be whatever the truck is rated at in off-road mode since the coils are supposed to be the same coil rate as OEM in off-road height. HD springs being heavier. You do not have load leveling though.

I would stick to whatever is factory for rates and tongue weight since you're going to be towing with a slightly higher lift. Depending on your tire size, tow rate is going to change as well.
