I really dislike the carpet style as well and ordered the CoverCraft "tech" mat (limited edition). Sorry not for LR3 its for my p-car but I do think it was complimentary to the interior and the wrap-knit looks so much better than a cracked dash.

I'm going to give Leather repair tape a try to cover the whole dash. I found a 20"x53" sheet.
