Figured I'd show what I've been running. I've got a bottle jack, compressor and all of my tire repair stuff in the bag. This way everything I need tire wise is right there without having to open up the floor. I ratcheted down the tire flat using the stock hold downs. Then I threw in 15 psi to snug the tire up real good. The tire doesn't move a bit.
Luckily the LR3 has a ton of room because having the tire inside does eat up a lot of space. It also makes getting into the lower floor area very difficult, and I have to remove the tire for my air mattress when I sleep in the back.
This set up has been off road numerous times without issue. All in all I prefer it over having the tire under the truck. Is it as convenient or as cool as a rear tire carrier, no it isn't. The thing is I had everything to do this in the garage so I'm in it for free.
