LR3 interior swap.

So I am in the market for a new vehicle and i have found a nice 08 HSE LR3 I am looking at but it has the Lux interior in Black. anyone have any Idea how hard it would be to swap out an interior, maybe even just the seats. The Truck as is would be worth it and I would get over the interior because the rest of the truck is so nice and is ready to go. I do hate the all black interior on any vehicle though.

Best option is to go with seat covers, get some Knightsbridge or Wetokle depending on your style.

Why on earth would you want to swap out the LUX Black leather interior? The LUX leather is FAR superior to the regular leather on the non-LUX LR3s. Every time I sit in another LR3 without the LUX leather I always consider myself lucky for having the LUX leather in mine.

Because its black. Like I said, I can get over the Black for the truck. I just really don't like black interiors.

ah....I specifically got mine in black b/c black doesn't show dirt like the tan interiors do. Given the amount of offroading, camping, etc I do in my LR3 black made most sense....I suppose it helps that I prefer black over tan also.

You also live in the Bay Area. If you lived in Central Texas you would more than likely have a different option on Black leather.

I've found that on 100+ degree days when I have my LR3 baking in the sun the soft LUX black leather does not heat up and burn your *** like the cheaper smooth plastically leather that came on the standard LR3s.

My advice is if the Lr3 is in pristine condition and has the rear locker (HD option) to jump on it and not let colors get in the way of getting a sound truck. Also, some nice tan canvas seat covers can also be added at any time.

no the interior would not be a game ender for this truck. Talking myself into owning two LR3's is the hard part. I'm looking a an used AEV Wrangler unlimited as well.

The seats are actually not hard to remove, takes time. Once seats are out, it is not hard to pull the plastic trim around doors, pillars, etc. They use the pop plastic clips, if you have a few extras they are easy to replace broken ones (they don't always break). Swapping in different seats is plug and play, with a few bolts.

The issue would be getting a tan interior to trade in. Maybe exchange with a friend who wants yours, swap his seats in and all (not sure about if airbag modules need to be coded to the ecu). When seats, center console and shifter assy, plastic trim, are out you can pull and replace carpets. Door cards I have no experience with, might be best to leave those alone.

While I could see it being a neat project to do, not sure I would do it just yet. I got charcoal M&M seat covers on a tan interior, you could go charcoal or tan covers on your black interior. Canvas cuts the temperatures fairly well, even with charcoal color. They aren't cheap but I bet cheaper and easier than sourcing a new color interior. Just a set of khaki covers will lighten up the interior drastically. Don't care about the other brands, Melvill and Moon is the best. We've done two cars with them here, and everyone I know with them would go that way again. Buy once cry once :)

I have a donor. My wife's LR3, but I might just swap the seats. I still have to decide if I want to have two.

Nice thing about owning two of the same is that you'll only need to "learn" one car and only have 1 set of spares that can be shared. My wife and I up until recently owned two Saabs...a 2000 Viggen and a 2002 9-5. While not exactly the same car, the 2.3L engine and transmission were exactly the same. It was nice being able to find root cause of problems by being able to swap known working parts out one car over to the other to verify issues (think electric TB, mass air sensors, CPS, pressure sensors, etc etc). Or say in the case of the waterpump to have first done it on one of the cars first and then be able to do it again in 1/2 the time on the other car.

I too hate all black interiors, almost as much I hate grey interiors.
I own an 2015 aev JKUR and the vast majority of the interior is black, except mine has tan plastic bits on the console and bottom of the dash.
Seats are some nasty cheap (stock mopar) grey-ish black leather with aev embroidered in the headrests.
If you can't handle a very nice lux LR3 interior in black, you'd freak out with the lower overall quality of the aev Jeep.
I'd get the lr3 and some nice khaki canvas seat covers from South Africa and call it a day.

Having lived with my black interior in Abu Dhabi's heat/sun, I can understand where you are coming from. Personally I'd either do the canvas seat covers or, more likely, go with some lighter wet okles in gray. The neoprene has, for me, tended to mitigate some of the ***** burning and also lends to the luxury of the LR3 better than canvas will.

Repaint the seats

One option: You can have an upholstery guy/shop repaint the leather for $200-300 bucks - like they do with leather sofas, etc. I got quoted $280 to reshoot my alpaca seats (fronts). Takes a few hours to sand /strip/ scuff the leather and then they reshoot it another color - I think they can just reshoot alpaca over the black. Comes out looking like new. The leather with all the cracks etc. isn't what really goes bad, it's the paint. You can even do it yourself for under $100 just buy the kit online.
