LR3/LR4 Hitch Options for a Bike Rack

Hello,

I'm a new owner of a 2006 LR3 and I am looking to add a hitch rack to the truck to tow mountain bikes. I have no plans to do any other towing with it at this time.

I have seen a few different options for hitches--
factory OEM option - ~550
Rhino Hitch -- $550
Atlantic British bolt on -- $300
Voyager -- $250 + lots in shipping
Amazon cheapie -- ~$80-100 and free shipping

Since I am not going to be towing and only using a bike rack, would the cheap option work? Looking forward to everyone's comments!

Do you have the factory hitch adapter that goes under your rear frame mount? If not, for your purposes I would just look around and find one of these on the used market. I found mine on eBay years ago for less than $200 if I remember right; maybe even less now that I think about it.

If you do not plan to ever tow, then its great option with no further modification and it's completely removable unlike most bolt on setups.

If you think you plan to tow in the future, personally I would contact @unseenone about his hitch set up and don't look back; that is the option I will eventually be going with it's just not in the expense needs right now for LR parts.

I'm not sure how much he's selling those for, but if spending a few hundred more for the @unseenone setup means you have a fully capable hitch for all around use, I would put all my money there and not any in the factory hitch monstrosity.

See image .3970, that is @unseenone design!

Hey thanks for the reply. Actually current market costs for the factory adapter are around 400 bucks. Crazy. I've been talking with unseenone actually and I think I will get one of his. Decided to try and only cry once.

You'll love the Rhino hitch and be glad you purchased it!

Good thoughts on that. Yah had the Rhino been out at the time, I would not have purchased the OEM paperweight.

Keep us posted on how it works out!

I had a cheap 4 bike model and ended up selling it and buying a rhino swagman. Buy once properly. Depends how many bikes you need to carry. If I was only carrying 2 I’d go for the tow bar model that the bikes sit in with the wheels instead of hanging from the bar. Hope that makes sense.

Todd's great people, and I've loved my Rhino hitch. It's not cheap, b/c it isn't a cheap product. Your buy once/cry once mentality is a good one though.

Make it a two-fer and get a Snomaster too....
