I wouldn't rely on that barrier holding the cargo back in a worst case scenario.

You needn't worry. LR3's have really excellent tie down anchors in the load space. You tie down everything heavy. The cargo barrier is to restrain duffel bags of clothes, sleeping bags, etc...

They look better than the ones in the D2 anyway. But having been in a heavy frontal collision myself, I have a healthy respect for the potential energy stored in luggage. I still wouldn't rely on any of that. Not those rings, not those straps, or the way it's all arranged. Just my opinion.

I'm afraid these dog barriers and 1" webbing just provide a false sense of security which leads to people stacking things higher.

I'm not sure, but if I recall it is in violation of CA Vehicle Code to stack anything up that high. I'm not sure if it has to do with obstruction or that stuff will turn into dangerous projectiles in a collision. I know a lot of commercial vehicles don't have rear windows at all so I'd think it's not about obstruction of view at all. I don't know...
