LR3 Start/Crank Irregularities

My 08 LR3 has had an irregular start/crank rhythm since I bought it in Feb. Sometimes it takes about a second to crank. Other times it takes up to 3 seconds. It has recently trended towards the longer cranking times. Is this a common issue? Wondering if others have similar experiences. Should I look to replace the starter or could there be another culprit?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Make sure the battery terminals are properly connected and without corrosion.

Then I’d look at the starter. It’s not bad to get to.

How many miles?

166k miles. I don’t have records showing that it’s been replaced.

Terminals should be good since I recently removed/reconnected them while doing some winch work. Always good to double-check though. Thanks for the tip.

If it is the starter, I see that AB has a genuine solenoid only for $170, while Rock Auto has AC Delco whole unit as a reman with 24 month warranty for less than half after core charge. Seems like a lot for the genuine part, but I’m new to Rovers. Any insight there?

See what FCP Euro has, they have lifetime warranty on all parts that they sell.

I’m on the original starter at 313K miles, so OEM is definitely robust.
