LR3 Suspension.... Compressor Dumped.

I believe the compressor just took a dump on me and now im considering going with coil. I will however miss my lift, Id have to get the kit from roverparts.com to convert it and then coil spacers.

Today I loaded the truck up with 6 people. After dropping them all off and driving away I though I heard something and then got a suspension fault. I had been getting these intermittently so I figured it would go away next start up. I this time I went to restart the truck and horrible grinding/buzzing for 10 seconds followed by suspension fault normal mode only. Compressor toast?

I'm not familiar with the LR3 but it shouldn't be too hard to locate the compressor and have someone turn it on to see if it is the problem. Personally if it was me I'd just fix whatever is broken if I was happy with the performance. If the longevity is your only concern sure the coils are better the air bags but I'm not sure the benefits would outweigh the loss in ride quality.

It would help if you put in your sig the year of your vehicle and let us know how many miles are on it. Also would help to know your location.

It definitely sounds like your compressor finally died on you. Do you know by any chance if the air dryer assembly of the compressor was ever replaced? It was a problem point on the LR3's and Range Rovers, and caused the compressors to work harder than necessary, and kill the unit. Replacing the compressor isn't to difficult of a job and could be done in your driveway, the part will run you around 600 or less depending if you decided to go OEM, rebuilt, etc. One thing you might want to consider is replacing the airbags while your at it to save you some headache down the line. I know that if you switch to coils it greatly changes the characteristics of the vehicle and how it handles. It's pretty common to switch to coils, but it's also pretty common for people to switch back to air suspension after they get tired of the ride of the coils.

I've spent some quality time with my compressor and replaced the valve in it to try and inexpensively resolve a suspension fault...anyways, I had difficultly with the air lines when I was "playing" with the compressor. Does anyone know the appropriate way to pull the lines out of both ends?

I've only done it on te range rover not the LR3's, but I know there are a couple of write ups on the land rover forums.
