I believe I have read everything on the forum related to this subject, but do I really have to drop the %*&$^&%* transfer case to change the *&^%*^&*% front output seal?

I have helped do the rear diff and I hear the front is easier...I sure hope so. It was a real pain. Not sure about the transfer case. Good luck.

Getting to any of the transfer case seals requires removing the transfer case. Access to the upper bolts attaching the transfer case to the transmission is miserable. In comparison, opening up the transfer case is much easier. Once it's open, removing the shafts requires tool improvisation, as the they are held in place by some unusual snap rings. I used a combination of small flathead screwdrivers and paperclips.

I think this job would be much, much, much easier by doing a body lift, like the guys on disco3 do.
