The wiring upgrade is common for D1's/Defenders/etc but I am not really sure of its effectiveness for the HID lights, would be interested to see if anyone had done something akin to the ARB harness but for the D3 HIDs-though I still really doubt the gains.

The bulb discussion is worthwhile though, as eventually I'll be replacing/upgrading mine.

So just replacing the Xeon bulbs isnt a fix? Or does it require new projectors?

Just a replacement, I robbed some Philips 85122+ bulbs from another project vehicle and I was blown away at the difference. My old bulbs were definitely due for replacing. Still need to get another set of bulbs tho:coffee:

Comparison shot (terrible quality, pretty sure my iphone cant focus any more dropped it to many times). Photos dont really do it justice, went for a drive in the rain and just having the upgraded philips it was much easier to see, also the beam pattern was much fuller.

Old Philips 85122

Newer-ish Philips 85122+ (have probably 40-50hours on them)

I really hate you guys.

I was just fine with my headlights until now. After reading this they're suddenly awful and I can't live without an upgrade. I'm a week, week man.

OP, when you decide how about a side by side comparison? Maybe change only one and take a pic? At least before and after pics. Because I know I'm going to have to replace mine too now.

<edit>
looks like you beat me to it on the pics.

Don I know how you feel, I'm now convinced that I need to do this too, I mean, it's an 06-who knows when the bulbs were changed!

This one is easy to justify.

It's a safety modification. Look how cleared the headlights were on page 2. You can see better when driving at night and that's good for safety.

This is why I ask questions, mine is an 08 with OEM bulbs and could use a replacement. I would assume there is no LED upgrade that would work in this scenario?

So what's the top-tip on sourcing bulbs? I did a 3 minute search and turned up stuff from $40 to $180. Somehow I suspect the $40 stuff might not be quite what I'm looking for.d

Sadly, with my ARB bumper changing the bulbs isn't the quick and easy job it could be.

So is this upgrade for the base model LR3's? I have an 2006 SE. I don't think I have HID but I don't really know. My brights are pretty decent but the standard beam could be better. Is that what is being replaced and is it a simple install?

This is my go to site - https://www.theretrofitsource.com/

All original bulbs, no russian roulette if your getting legit or chinese knock offs. For which ones to go with I am going to experiment with either the OSRAM XENARC 66240 Nightbreaker or Philips 85122XV CI Extreme Vision

Dont quote me on this but I believe the SE it was an option to get the Xenon headlights (projector setup), if you have that then its easy all you do is get new xenon bulbs if you dont have it... then its a whole other ball game

SE's can def have HID's, my truck came with them from the factory.

Well, if you use those guys you'd better know what you want - For 2007 they don't list Land Rover at all!

It looks like this is the ticket:

At least as far as the Nightbreaker goes. I'm leaning that way based on what I've read since it's a little warmer than some of the super-white/blue cooler bulbs. My aux. lighting is all very cool, but for day to day use my not-so-good eyes can do with a bit less blue.
