LR4 - Baja designs s8 20" hidden light bar install

Hi - sharing my install of a 20" Baja S8 light bar behind the stock LR4 grill with no cutting or drilling needed...

Recently I have not really been liking the prospeed light bar mount I had installed last year - it's got some wind noise issues and I have been wanting a more OEM (hidden) look. After an incident with a rough automatic car wash this week (reason why I should always use self service car washes!) I noticed the rivnuts were actually loose and beginning to tear themselves out of the A pillars, so I decided to take it off the car. I also like a lower mounted aux light so the lights do not reflect off the hood.

See attached for some photos of the 20" spot pattern bar which fits behind the stock sv6 14-16 LR4 grill - I used gorilla brand heavy duty mounting tape along the base bottom cradle (similar to VHB) and some hardware store right angle brackets to stabilize the sides with rubber bushings. I'll take some night shots to make sure the grill doesn't block too much of the light and that theres no vibration when driving.

Also - proud of my switch install on the overhead console - can fit 4 switches on the LR3 or LR4, but need to relocate the microphone (velcro to side of mirror right now)

I still want to retrofit the stock fog light positions with baja designs pro squadrons for wide angle/cornering lights. I may order the tacoma fog install kit and see if I can hack it up to fit the LR4 (https://www.bajadesigns.com/product...-Current-Tundra-14-Current-Fog-Pocket-Kit.asp)

Will sell the prospeed light bar mount if someone wants it, and I also have 2x 10" S8 bars that I'm not sure where to mount (might mount on the roof rack)

Interested to see how the squadron installs go in the factory for a location. I would recommend getting a connector to match the factory fog light connection to the squadrons. Then use the gap tool to allow fogs to work with highbeams and then use your factory switch.

I think both the tacoma/4runner pigtail and lr3/lr4 use H11 connectors so the baja wiring should work.

The main concern is if the bracket holes match up at all, or the stock fog bezels on the LR4 need sanding or dremel work.

I have already done the GAP tool "mod" and replaced with LED bulbs, so my fogs are fairly useful off the factory switch - I'll post when I order and try out the baja squadron pros.

That’s super clean! Well done! I’ve been trying to figure out how to have my fogs on with the high beams and by themselves. Can you share what changes you made with the GAP tool?

Also how did you run the wires for the switches? Up the A pillar? I’d like to put my HAM radio speaker and maybe the faceplate up there.

Thanks!

another guy watching for the squadron install. I put some sylvania yellow bulbs on there, but they don't put out as much light as the fogs in my silverado did.

Squadrons are on order...

Regarding wire runs - there's an existing hole in the A pillar by the base of the windshield that I enlarged very slightly and put a gasket in, this allows you to run a wire inside the cabin and then up the A pillar "headliner".

You can get one wire up each of the exterior A pillar covers for roof lights, but its a PITA to keep these trims on with wiring underneath - they just don't fit quite right.

I may eventually re-wire the entire thing with an Spod or similar relay system if I can find something reasonable and utilize my switch locations above as it's kind of a lot of wiring that's not needed.

KC has a loom hider that sticks to the windshield with 3m tape and is destined ruck up yo the A pillar. Might be a good solution.

Piggybacking on this thread - the baja squadrons fit well into the fog light holes - I used a tacoma kit for the actual light surrounds.

JB welded the aluminum surrounds to the stock plastic bezels - been almost a year and no issues! Ugly but strong... An alternative would be to make some sort of bracket that rivets or is bolted onto the stock bezel

Wired to the stock fog connectors so they use the switch on the dash. Easily reversible with some replacement plastic bezels!

The Crostrek/Impreza mounts look like they'd match up to the 10-13 bezels. I haven't tried it yet.
