LR4 Suspension Fault

My buddy just called me, proud owner of an LR4. Said his suspension dumped and doesn't know where to start. My IID Tool is still in the mail so I can't verify. Before I head over and start looking around, I am wondering if its the same or similar problems as the LR3 with tail lights/brake lights?

1) Tail lights/brake lights?
2) Speed sensor/cable loom?
3) Battery volts/charge?

Anything else super common I should look at? Can I disconnect the battery to reset a fault to clear it on an LR4? (Assuming the fault is indeed gone)

Thanks,

E

Did he just pull it off a lift? Need more info here. How old, suspension been worked on? Has he touched a sensor with a pressure washer etc.

No maintenance was done on the vehicle. Wife was driving the kids to school and it went off and dropped.

Good news is, he just called me. LR has it now and says he is still covered under the 100k warranty. I told him before they do any work after the diagnostic, ensure that he confirms what they are replacing as he will get the $300 diagnostic fee every time he takes it in. My fear is, they will start pulling and replacing random like most dealers and it'll work for a few days and then happen again only to have another diagnostic fee charged.

LR of Honolulu is horrible across the board.....just saying.

They should have a clause that says if they don't fix the problem he/she wont pay diagnostic fees for the same problem. If they diagnosed it themselves I wouldn't pay for it the second time. My 06 on all the bills I have paid has a 12 month warranty on parts if they (the dealer) diagnosed the problem (IE noted it in your file) and then tried a fix.

Maybe have him/her get a statement in writing saying they will waive the fee if it has to come back. That sucks since you're kind of stuck in a closed market that LR honolulu has on LOCK. Hope it gets sorted. You could try an IID tool if someone has one around and get as much info as you can before going in. Dealers can't really argue with hard data or a printout of codes.

I am ordering my IID Tool for my LR3 this week....been busy and need to do it ASAP. Not sure if I can use it from vehicle to vehicle but if that is an option, I might be able to help him out. Yes, LR Honolulu has the market. I do not give them any money unless I have too. I like doing my own maintenance and the amount of knowledge on this site about LRs, I do not believe anything is out of my reach if I put enough time and effort into it. My sweat labor is priceless...lol

Sorry to hear about your friends issue. The Gap tool is locked to one VIN, but you can purchase extra VIN licenses. Not sure of the exact cost, but I believe it's between $100-150. Might be able to talk your buddy your into splitting the overall cost. It's definitely WORTH
every penny at full price, spitting the cost would be icing on the cake. I'm trying to talk my SIL into it, has an '09 RRS
Also, as others have stated, the BT version would be highly recommended.

Where is the best place to order it? I am going to order it today and get it on the way to Hawaii for my project I am starting this week.

I'm pretty sure the Gap tool is only vin locked for editing config files and modifying the EAS settings, but it will work as a code reader on any compatible LR.

Oh okay. I was unaware of certain features being locked vs unlocked. That's good to know.

OP, I also ordered from Lucky8. Very easy and fast!

The IID tool is locked to one vin.

However, you can do basic fault clearing, testing and such on ANY modern LR.

Mine is locked to my 05 D3. I've read a 02 L322, 3 mates D3's and a D4 with it.

I can check codes, clear them, check basic values of injectors, compressors, temperatures, etc.

Awesome. I was pretty sure that this was the case but I had not actually tried it with my IID tool. I'm glad I wasn't wrong!

Yup, it's earned me a few pints and some good points with the Boss at work as they have a 3 as well.

The L322 was to figure out why it was sitting on the back right on it's ********. Codes were all coming up clean. One jack up found a height rod that had broken with age, ( 13 years old )
Some blue tape and 4 cable ties saw it up and running for a week and 600 miles before it got changed... :D

If you can't fix it with tape and cable ties.... Use more..
