Lunette with bend for leveling

If you are are going to bend a forged piece of steel, I would also plan on new heat treatment for it since any welding will probably anneal the forging and likely weaken it.

Picked this up at the store. Not sure if it fits my M101CDN yet. Will try tomorrow. The offset seems to be about 1 3/4 to 2"

The dimensions are as follows:

Fat end diameter 51.7mm / 2.033"
Narrow end diameter 33.1mm / 1.3"
Length of flat portion 150.8mm / 5.918"
Diameter of threaded portion 28mm / 1.1"
Length of threaded portion 56mm / 2.2"

Threaded end is covered by a protective sleeve

I feel like a 40 lb forged steel lunette even after modification will still stand up better than the trailers we are towing. If I remember my towing weights using pintle hitches this unit (the lunette only) would be rated somewhere around 12,000lbs. We will likely never run into the weight and stress issues these were somehow over-engineered for but thats my :friday:

You're probably right, but without knowing the alloy used or what it's HT is as delivered there is no way to know for sure. It could be that the HT is more for wear than for strength, and it could be that the HT was purely for fatigue life.

I don't like the idea of a bent lunette. An S shape is a spring, so even light loadings are going to be fatiguing that part. If the HT is off then it may not like being used as a spring and fail in one of the bends.

I think I'll cut and extend mine when the time comes, but it should be about level once the axle gets flipped the 295's go on the trailer and my rear bumper gets swapped out making the hitch hole fairly.

I read somewhere... (tho' can't find that at the moment)
...of how it looked to be, that someone turned the lunette casting 180* (Mounted under the A frame upside down)
Don't recollect if there was mention of any misalignment issues with the bolt holes... but thought there wasn't

Bad thing is the drop down leg support is on the topside now. :(

But if it works... should be closer to the spring over post ride height I'd guess

...just need to attach an alternate trailer tongue support and it's good to go.

a few minutes work to unbolt the casting and test that fit.
seems viable and simple enough to know for sure.

I didn't bother testing this, 'cause, I wanted to keep my original folding support leg functional...

I'm moving more towards doing something like posted two threads down this folder

And it's posted here as well

And another approach with more details Here

I'm just reading way too many forums these days
