M 416 tongue nightmare

I had my M416 tongue strengthened and extended. During this the cone on the end of the extended lunette ring bar was damaged. Mine is at the bottom of the picture.

Now the tongue , when mounted in the trailer , cannot rotate when tightened down and if allowed to rotate has a significant wobble. not to specs.

The bottom picture is my piece. The shop that did the work is willing to build back the cone and have a machine shop lathe it to the original specs. If this does not work I will have to find an option.

As I can see it I am limited to a Maxcoupler or Lock and Roll hitch to be welded on.

I've been trying to see if there is such a thing as a rotating pintle hitch on a receiver hitch but have not have any luck.

And all this just before EXPO.
ideas?

Hi neighbor!
I know it's a little late, but I've just built my own off-road hitch for my pop-up build. I'll weld a receiver end and use a regular 2" ball coupler for highway use and just switch it for off-road. Stronger and a cheaper than a Max coupler.

Do some stick welding to build it back up and file it to shape with some hand files. Take less than an hour and doesn't require a shop or a goddamned lathe.

Look for an ex-MOD Land Rover Defender NATO pintle hitch. They rotate

tongue

I did find a rotating pintle. But now need to redo the whole tongue since the welder did a poor job.

Yikes...also Boehringer, I think made rotating pintles for Unimog S's, might be another source.

Hi you have to much leverage at the wrong end the rotating needs to be by the jeep end;; and fixed or a slip box receiver on the trailer, Kelly

How far did you extend the lunette?

You need to be very careful about extending them.

I have found it is better to extend the pintle hook than the lunette.

The rotating lunette is a great design that is used on many trailers that are a lot heavier. The rotating pintle is only used for medium duty truck applications. The key is for off-road use either the pintle or lunette must rotate.
