I could not place the struts right where I wanted them due to the tailgate opening. I kept the brace, there are actually one on each end; for peace of mind. The struts barely hold the lid in the open position, and don't take much to get to close.

Are you using CJ flares? Great looking trailer BTW. I purchased some prefabbed fenders for my trailer project and need some flares for a couple more inches of clearance. I'm hoping my trailer fenders are the same radius as the CJ flares so I can use some.

stock 1953 springs and shocks, just flipped the axle to a spring over. The hand brake cable took some rerouting and had to redrill some brackets.

Your trailer looks like it is in very good shape. I came across one of these trailers, He said it is a 1946 jeep trailer, but it is in great shape. Two problems though, first, I don't have the money to purchase it, and second, I kind of wanted to build my trailer from scratch. I was thinking of building a fleet side trailer to take advantage of the extra cargo space. But until I sell my FSJ, I can't do anything, very depressing.

I am old, and hate trying to lift/pour 5 gallon gas cans. The water jugs can be used with a super siphon easily. A 5 gallon can won't set upright on the trailer side unless the top is kicked out severely. And, I don't trust the gas cans laying on the sides.
As an alternative, I can strap two 5 gallon jerry cans where the water jugs are; and carry water inside the trailer. I doubt that I will ever do this, I just don't go where I need that much gas. I have at min. 250-300 mile range now-without the small cans. They would add another 100 miles to that.
