How high is the 'bed' off the ground?

-Chris

Like Coachgeo said, the bed is probblay a bit over 5 feet off the ground.

However, unloaded, the frame rails are 54.75 inches off the ground at the back end and about an inch lower behind the cab (the vehicle is nose heavy unloaded). We removed the bed, and our habitat will be on a flexible mount on the frame rails. When loaded the bottom of our habitat will be about 54 inches off the ground.

You guys are clearly talented and motivated, props.I have a four wheel drive host RV and am planning on building an expedition vehicle, hoping to use a M1084. Does anyone have any good input on that model? Hope to pick one up this winter.

Need to head over to Steel Soldiers and go through the FMTV thread. Lots of information on there.

Read through the blog. Amazing work. I have been looking at the FMTV's and doing my research, so very interested in your progress. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing the final product.

I am planning a 1083 to camper conversion. I will be watching this thread intently.

I noticed a 3D model picture. Do you have pictures of the inside and any other models to share?

I've noticed some updates on the blog site. Love all the details and seeing what you are addressing on a 20 year old truck.

I am working on an FMTV, the bigger brother (6x6, 5 ton) and I put in a roller shutter door in the rear of the cab.

1. I am ditching these tanks for the self-sealing ones (75 gallons, $ 150 on E-bay).
2. And, I am enclosing them in a steel cargo box as I have not only seen people steel fuel but also drill into the tank.
In Mexico, Europe, Asia fuel is expensive and getting 50 + gallons is worth $ 200 +.

Lockers from Bryce

Bryce sold and installed my high speed gears.
At that time, he did not have the lockers.
He is coming back in January and we will install them at that time.
Highly recommend him, honest and knowledgeable.

Stock, these things have about 86 DB at 55 mph.
Cab sides, back and roof are getting multiple layers of RAAMmat BXT II & Ensolite IUO Peel and Stick Foam.
Floor is getting 4 layers of Second Lizard Skin on the inside of the cab and Al's Liner ALS-HNR (HNR) Heat and Noise Reducer - 500F limit on the entire cab floor.
Above the engine will be fiberglass / aluminum engine room insulation.
Exhaust manifold, turbo, exhaust pipe will be insulated (and a heat exchanger installed).
Looking at getting an additional muffler and exhaust silencer.
Windows are getting a sound reducing (-6 dB) laminate on the inside.
Entire chassis & cab has already been coated with 2 layers of monstaliner.
We'll see how all that works.
At the moment, we don't have the fuel tank & battery connected so I can't measure progress if any.

And, we are still installing an aviation intercom in case none of this makes much difference :).

Do you have a link for these tanks?
