I don't find the spring over on mine to be unpredictable, but it is a bit taller than I'd like for 33's. If you modified the fenders a bit you could probably make them fit SUA, maybe a little longer shackle too?
Those holes will be pretty easy to patch too. I'd cut out a little beyond the hole, make a cardboard template, transfer it to similar gauge sheet, and a little bit of welding and grinding and you'll be golden.
Keep it SUA and buy or build new fenders to clear the 33's. Easier to get stuff in and out, lower center of gravity off road, and the lower the better on the highway as far as wind drag goes.
I run stock JK Rubicon tires and wheels on my trailer SUA, they measure 32" tall, and built a set of fenders to fit.
