M416 Project

This is the best one I have. I'll take some better ones next week.

The floor on my trailer will not hold paint very well due to rust/oils so I think I am going back to what I originally intended to do. I have left over bed rails from when I redid my wood bed in the 57 Chevy I used to have. I just need to get the boards and router the edges. It will look like this when I am done. Sans the chrome. The rails I have are gloss black.

With the recent bumper I fabricated it dramatically raised the pintle hitch. This threw off the ride height of the tongue. :(

I think it is time for a SOA. I am going to try the higher lunette hole first though, but I don't think it will be enough.

Scott looks really nice, you were one of the first to post up a resto, I can remember looking at your stuff way back in the day. Is that correct? Have you had this done for a long time now? I remember seeing it on another site or something.

Looks great, can't wait to see the bed when you are done with it!

Thanks Drew. Yea I bought it in April 2005. Ever since I saw Henry's build I was hooked. I had it up on numerous sites over the years. I have slacked off on it lately. I still have allot of ideas for it but I think this is worlds slowest M416 build :cow:

I have been staring at it on and off all morning. lol. I'm really close to taking a chop saw making a tailgate...... I have to figure in the anticipated mods before I do it though. Hence the worlds slowest M416 build :costumed-smiley-007

I went ahead and built the 2" box tube axle. I built it to 67 WMS to WMS. Turned out pretty good and now I have the 5 on 4.5 hub pattern to match the Jeep. I also did a SOA on it and now it is level again!! I just have to swap the 31" tires onto the rims and it is done. Best part is I can see it out the rearview mirror now. I'll get some pictures up in the AM.

Here are the pictures. I have allot more room underneath now for some sort of water tank or storage.

I used a Northern Tool/ Reliable square tube spindle. I think it was 1700 to 1800 lb rating each. I welded it to the 2" box tube and also bought the hubs a Northern too. I attached it with 6" square u bolts. I just remembered I still have to fab up a shock mount. Should be pretty easy though.

I will be getting a complete CJ-5 tailgate in a few days! It conforms to the shape and design of the back of the trailer perfectly. It will make a good addition.

I will have the tailgate, chains and hinges. Charging the batteries on the saws all now. :victory:

I picked up the tailgate today. Its in good shape. Needs a little work with cracks and stuff. Overall easy fixes.

Its an old Original Kaiser style gate. Here is a closer look at the letters.

I welded up all the cracks and primered it to protect it till its done. I'm thinking about painting it gloss black for contrast.
