M416 Swing open tire carrier

I've been looking for awhile on what to do with the spare on my 416, I really wanted it under it but just couldn't get it to fit.I had a bumper that i really liked (i copied from one on youtube). However that spare took too much room inside,so here I go. Because I couldn't use the hinge i wanted because of the awning bracket.I needed a weld on hinge so i found a great one from 4X innovation,it was way overkill but the the only option.

So far I have about $240 in metal and hinge,now I already had the rectangular bumper piece. I felt it still needed something..Evertime i use the trailer I think of something i need on it and there never seems to be enough "table space" so lookin around the net,I saw some jeep tailgate trays. an thought WHY NOT.

Pretty happy so far,welds could be better,but it's not going anywhere. I did loose my little trailer hitch from the other bumper,couldn't figure a way to make it work unless I went under the trailer and i really didn't want anything hanging below the trailer.

This is actually my 2nd swingout spare on a 416, my first attempt was on my regular 416 not set up for camping,but its got a totally different hinge.

I took the old spare tire carrier from my cj7 and welded it directly to the uprights for my RTT frame.

Never thought about that, wish I would’ve, I could of kept my old bumper, I would of had to beef up my awning uprights, but that would have been preferable because I really liked the look of the old
