Has any body done a tongue extention on an m416 or m101 that uses the original rotating pintle setup? If so got any pics?

I like your build, but I have heard you want the draw bars under the load for strength. Have you had any problems? Have I heard correct or is it nothing to worry about?

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
The only thing that went wrong with mine (that I am repairing literally as we speak) is the factory crossmember where my independent arms were having some movement (basically bending this crossmember) and it was affecting my alignment and ability to carry load, also due to the poly bushings I had deflecting too much. The arms themselves did not bend in the slightest which I was pretty pleased about. My new technique is using machined Delrin bushings (so no deflection) and replacing the crossmember with a thick piece of steel. I am also having the entire trailer powdercoated rather than using the paint I chose which did not hold up over winter. I'll post updates about it in my thread. I'm on the fence about taking the time to beef up the arms themselves some more but everything else held up great. When I did the tongue extension I had an engineer who was with Boeing for years there and he liked the approach and suggested adding the plates below for torque yield strength. It has held up 100% with no issues, tweaking, etc, at all...

yep

I used 3 x 2 - 3/16" wall tubing and some angle iron and made the tongue as long as possible, using the factory lunette hardware and cross member location. I had to remove the parking brake hardware and re-drill holes for the factory U-bolts. If you go this route, I have an AutoCAD drawing of the change.

Here's what a buddy and I did to ours...welded in a 2x4x3/8 steel tube across the entire front end. We welded supports from the back of the tube to the original frame for strength, it's NOT going anywhere!!

Nice work. That gives you what, another 6" of drop? What size tires are you running on the trailer?

Yeah it does...I'm running the factory military tires with a spring over towed behind a FJC with 35's and a 6" lift. My buddy is running 33's on his trailer and FJC with a 3" lift. One of the main reasons we choose this design is the adjustability within the lunette and pintle. It can truly be towed behind a multitude of different vehicles and lifts. My friend Tom and his dad are the true desingers of the extension. Kudos to them both!
