M416 trailer rebuild!!!

Finally found me an M416 trailer. I have searched for a while with some being too expensive others being rusted out. My cousin and I found an add on CL for a military trailer for sale with a 6 x 4 bed. No pics and the lady didn't know much about it. It took 2 8 hour round trips to get it but here it's what I ended with... My son and I are excited!

Finally got it converted to 12v. I was able to use the original lights and keep them water proof. Took a while now on to the next project. I pulled it for about 30 min or so. The drivers side hub was cool passenger however was a little warm. Guess packing the bearings is the next project.

Ok removing the bearings went surprisingly well. I downloaded the manuel got a quick look and went to work. 20 minutes at most other side should go faster. Napa in the am to get a set of new bearings and seals.

While you have the hubs apart go ahead and check the brakes, springs, adjustment nut, etc. Easier to do it now than pull it apart later and maybe have to replace the rear seal again

Great find and post plenty of pictures!!

Great idea. Everything looked good. Cleaned it up a bit. One thing that worried me were the asbestos warnings!!! I wonder if they make new asbestos free brakes for them?

A cousin of mine completed one last year. I'm going for this but to match my JKUR in Jeeps Anvil color with the Rubicon wheels.

I also plan a Cascadia RTT.

Asbestos fibers are the issue keep the fibers wet "Brake Cleaner" and not floating around and you will be fine.

Mark is correct. Asbestos is only an issue when in the air and not in solid form. There is more asbestos in the air during rush hour on the freeway then what you get working on the trailer (yes I am a geeky safety engineer who has done the air samples). That being said I am sure someone makes replacement brakes for a CJ3 that are non-asbestos.
