MAC vs. PC

Garmin has answered the MAC call in a big way. Their customer support has a dedicated MAC group ready to help with any questions. The suite of MAC software is pretty well complete.

Just as an aside - I made the switch to Mac almost two years ago and have never looked back. My work uses PC's and we update our computers about 5 times a month vs. the MAC's 5 times a year (so it seems) Anyway, I was flagged on the work PC that an update was REQUIRED before I could go on. Of course I had a client at my desk, which made this awkward, to say the least. Anyway, we counted and I had to hit ENTER / YES / CONFIRM LOCATION / AGREE / YES, I really want to get his over with / etc a total of 9 times to finish the update. MAC takes one click and a password.

I've been using a Mac desktop computer and a mobile PC for a couple of years. Overall, I definitely like the Mac better. A lot of my nav software doesn't work with Mac. So, I'd suggest deciding on your timeframe and navigation tools of choice, and then determining if they are compatible with Mac (or will be soon) and go from there. As was mentioned, the Mac is getting closer and closer to becoming a full-fledged mobile nav device that's compatible with the best nav tools, but it's not quite there yet.

Just thought I'd ad that last night I took two classes at the Apple Store - Imovie and Final Cut and thought they were amazing, especially being that they were free. Can't say I've ever say anything like that for PC's other than the "how to turn on your computer" classes at the local public library.

Yeah they are really nice for free..

By comparison, if you buy Vista you get Microsoft Movie Maker, which has broken through the bottom of the barrel and started digging. It is truly horrible, sure it'll make DVD's for grandma but other than that you need to buy something.

For my Thesis I did write an OS called Scottix :) I assure you that you didn't want to run that operating system though :D I am no Torvalds, Tanenbaum or Cutler (thank goodness on that last one, bloody VMS lover)
