Hi All,

I've been in deep research mode for a while now, and have collected a vast number of links to interesting vehicles on Craigslist. I've been doing my best to post these as they come up, but given that I come up with at least ten new vehicles a day, I can't maintain the pace

That's a comprehensive list... I've been looking at diesel 4x4 vans and thought I had them all on my radar but you had one or two more that I hadn't seen. Thanks!

I posted up a separate thread about my search for the ultimate urban/wilderness travel vehicle here. In short, I am loosely based in the SF Bay Area, but travel frequently both throughout the US and the world. I've been looking for something I can live in while Stateside, that will get me just about anywhere I might think to go. I'm 6'1", so internal height is something of an issue. I can't just buy an ambulance and retrofit it, as I simply cannot stand up in it. I already own one, and I'll be putting it on the market fairly soon as a failed experiment.

My preference is for a 4x4, because I want to be able to go where others fear to tread - or at least get away from the weekend campers for a week or two at a time. I want to be completely self-contained, but I also want great gas mileage. I'd prefer to be able to shower inside, but it won't kill me if I can't. I'm seeking a unicorn, and I know that somewhere along the line I'll either need to compromise on budget or features. Given that I'll be heading to Sri Lanka fairly soon, and then on to Malaysia, Thailand and Australia before hitting the East Coast of the US and then to Europe and the Middle East, it might be a few months before I settle on a vehicle.

But I've also noticed a dramatic uptick in vehicles for sale, which I suspect is because it's warming up again. So if I find the right thing, I'll pull the trigger and dump my gear in it before i hit the road in the next 3-4 weeks. Still not sure what I want, but finding the research project - including this forum - to be instructive in thinking it through.

Wow, amazing list, thank you for the effort behind it will be checking it daily for updates.

I spent 2 1/2 months in Sri Lanka recently, happy to share highlights or information if you're looking for any ideas. We were there with surfing as our primary motivation but also covered a fair bit of ground exploring and checking out cultural sites.
