I made my own mount with two TUSK mounts from Rocky Mountain ATV and some aluminum angle.

I spoke with TRED USA in California a couple of days ago.

I was interested in the dimensions length wise of the mounting holes as I plan to use a Vector off road exo rack as the mount.

Once they provided me with the information, I asked why the price difference between Summit and the other vendors.

TRED USA told me that Summit purchased all the old stock made with the original recipe/resin/plastic that had issues dealing with cold wx. Temp was not discussed but he said if the old stock was used in mild climates there would be no problems. I advised I lived in Ohio and the would see winter use which could cause a failure.

I asked if the Lifetime warranty would apply and I was assured it would.

Soooooo, for 105 bucks at Summit I bought a pair and if they fail due to cold temps I'll send em back for a new and improved set.

FWIW register your TRED's on line, very easy.

I think you meant you spoke with TJM USA as there is no TRED 4x4 USA office. (yet)

I'm not sure how much experience you guys have actually using these things, but you might want to consider ease of access when deciding on your mounting method. Usually when you need to use them you will need them multiple times in a day and when you're done using them they will either have snow or mud or sand all over them.

I have them ratchet strapped to the roof rack of my hundred series and after a day of snow wheeling where I took them on and off the roof to use them about a half-dozen times I knew I needed a better mounting solution! that's why I'm really happy with the drop in system in the swing away for my 74. Much easier in and out secured by a bungee cord when not needed.

x2, just watch something like the Malaysian Rainforest challenge. Those folks have their traction/recovery gear storage down to a science. They are pulling winch ropes/cables, land anchors, and waffle boards/traction mats all day long. Lots of very smart solutions that could be easily homebuilt.

When I spoke with TJM, I was under the impression that summit just purchased the old stock of TRED's.

I called TJM to get the dimensions of the mounting holes before I purchased the EXO Rack. Guy I spoke with said he had a supply of them in warehouse. He put me on hold and a few minutes later had the info I needed. I also asked why the price difference between Summit and everyone else and that's when he told me about the change in formula and Summit bought what was left of the old/original TRED's.

My brother just purchased TRED's and mounts yesterday from Dirty Parts. I'm building same set up for him.

I don't know any more then what I was told and I'm just passing info along.

I am NOT "in the know or loop".
