Justin, will you be bringing your bike out to the Rendezvous?
I want to check it out as I need a reason to get back into mountain biking.

Hi Jeff,

Yes, I will bring the Moonlander to the Desert Rendezvous. You are more then welcome to give it a go.:punk03: If you have a helmet bring it, as mine will probably be pretty sweaty.

Back to the Jeep Dealership - March 20, 2012

Moonlander-BacktotheJeepDealership-2951.jpg

A while back I dropped the Jeep off to get a new gas tank installed under warranty. Shortly after getting it back(2-17-2012). I started to get a check engine light for the gas cap. My service tech said I should bring it back in. He thinks that something might not be tight(hoses). Since it was unlikely to be the gas cap. The down side was right after I got it back I filled the tank. So it has been awhile just for me to run the tank down. So in other words I dropped the Jeep off this morning. Uneventful ride home on the street.

Once home I noticed this sticking out of my rear tire. A bolt about 1" long. Well you just can't leave it alone so I did what anyone would do "I pulled it!". Followed by the sound of "whoosh". Plenty of Stan's in the tire but with a hole this big I figured I should pull the tire off and do a proper patch. So off came the tire. Tube was patched. I checked the inside of the tire and only noticed one thorn. Pretty good since I know where I have ridden. I think there might be something to this low pressure. Seems my tires flex around stuff instead of causing them to penetrate the tire. Todays cause was most likely do to the 18 psi in the tires. Considered high for a fat bike.

Pacific Coast Cycles - March 21, 2012

Moonlander-PacificCoastCycles5-0603.jpg

The Jeep was ready for pickup at the Dealership. So I headed off from the house towards the beach. Decided to ride up to Pacific Coast Cycles.

Moonlander-PacificCoastCycles-0594.jpg

Along the way I checked to see how the trails were drying out from all the rain. It is OK but could use another day or so for the remaining mud puddles.

Moonlander-PacificCoastCycles2-0598.jpg

As usually the tides were not in my favor. I ended up taking the road most of the way.

Flowers are starting to bud on the Pacific Coast Highway.

Small surf. It would have been nice to be out on the water in a sea kayak.

Moonlander-PacificCoastCycles4-0602.jpg

Furthest destination north. This is were I picked up my Moonlander. I enjoy talking to Chuck the owner. He has some pretty cool views on cycling.

Poor shot or not. The GoPro has some short comings with not having an LCD to view. I know they have an add on LCD, but doesn't that defeat the waterproof case. Enjoy the Scotch!

What GoPro do you have?
You know they have very nice LCD screens now that snap on the back?
I love my GoPro. I wish I had your amount of time to use it.

Aha, So I learn something new everyday. I have the Hero 2. Looks like I might just have to add this LCD screen to my list of wants. Just read the reviews over at GoPro. Other than battery life being a problem. It looks like it could really be of use in setting up the image before shooting. Time - Yes, I am milking it. I think my days are numbered as a Stay At Home Dad. Nathan started 1st Grade this year. Leaving me with a good portion of my day free and clear. After 8 years at this job I am finally reaping some of the rewards.

Thanks for the heads up on the GoPro.

And it's water proof, I just sent my oldest down a waterslide wearing it.

Hello Sloan,

You should free yourself up this weekend and head out to the Desert Rendezvous. It looks like it should be a fantastic place for our Fat Bikes.

I wish I could this weekend but mom doesn't get home from Shanghai until saturday morning, I am also a stay at home dad. Well sorta, I still work two days a week on Desperate Housewives. You might also check out the K-Edge GoPro mounts. They are aluminum and you use tools to mount them so no more slippage. I am a grip by trade so IMHO you can never have enough camera mounts.

Thanks for the insight into K-Edge GoPro Mounts. I did not even know they existed.

Backroads thru Olivenhain - March 22, 2012

Moonlander-BackroadsthruOlivenhain-3325.jpg

Out doing a few errands today before the Desert Rendezvous. Finally used the short cut thru the hills to get over to town. Well maybe not a shortcut but at least it did not involve going up to the Boy Scout Kiosk on top of La Costa Preserve. The following is a series of photographs of the trail that cuts thru the valley.

First water crossing.

Moonlander-BackroadsthruOlivenhain8-3540.jpg

The trail is tight and afterwards I check myself for ticks. Usually pulling several off my legs. Yuck!

Second stream crossing.

Moonlander-BackroadsthruOlivenhain9-3638.jpg

On the west side of La Costa Preserve. Crossing the base of the mountain.

Moonlander-BackroadsthruOlivenhain10-3672.jpg

Fun, fast, single track thru the open fields. The rest of the ride was darting thru roads and horse trails thru the town of Olivenhain. I stopped at a couple of shops in Encinitas and then made my way back home.

Nice pics. Makes me want a Pug/ML bad. Too many bike projects in the garage, though... (according to the wife, anyway).

Finally starting to get warm here. Now if I can just figure out that stay-home dad thing...
