I overestimated my budget availability. Was unable to order the parts. Gonna have to wait a few months to recover from the start of school season.

Btw, you're welcome to pop over this weekend and help me on some electrical projects :)

Nathan, how do you like the 33s? Do you find the power lacking? I don't know what the Monteros came with from the factory but my truck came with 29" tires so with my 32" tires now and no gearing change I definitely notice the difference especially on steep uphill sections.

I notice the knobby tires quite a lot, I definitely have more road noise and lost a noticeable degree of "smoothness" on the road, but power availability and acceleration have been completely fine. If I run them stiff, around 38 psi, the handling is a bit more... attentive, with the truck tramlining around in the lanes and shuddering a bit too hard on bumps in the road. So I tend to run them a bit soft at about 32 psi, and that settles things right down. I've left the sway bars on though. I plan on letting my son drive this truck next year, and I don't want to diminish the handling any further.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree on the tire stiffness, though mine aren't knobbies they are E-load tires and I ran them around 40psi with lots of shuddering on the bumps, lately I've been driving them at 35psi and the ride is much better. Good idea on leaving the sway bars on with a new driver behind the wheel, I didn't notice much difference after the sway bar removal on mine but then I have much stiffer springs than stock so that helps. Power wise I think the gearing in the Monteros is probably better because mine has 255hp and 250ft-lbs torque and while it's not a slog or anything with the 32" tires it just requires more application of the gas pedal.

DSouth came over the other day and test drove the Monty. He's been investigating the Monty as a new family friendly platform, and is comparing Gen 2's, 2.5's, and 3's. I'll invite him to post up his observations as they likely to be more objective than my own.

In short, when I get mine, I'm going with the same tires.

Prior to driving a rig with them, I was very concerned about road noise from them, but in mixed city and freeway driving, the only time I noticed any above average noise was at low speeds(< 20MPH). Keep in mind too, that nwoods has the somewhat skinny versions of these, and so if you are considering a wider tire in the same tread pattern YMMV. Sure, a less nobby tire will be quieter, but inside the cabin at highways speeds, it wasn't the tires that created the most noticeable noise, it was the wind ;-) (I think).

OEM parts

Hello bud!

I've been on the wire for quite a number of years. The one thing I learned was staying with OEM. Off-Roader & others have given me a plethora of knowledge. I started buying OEM parts for six months, due to the cost. I purchase all my parts from http://oemmitsubishiparts.com/. They are strictly online, but you can call them for part numbers etc. They are in Texas and are friendly..Shipping isn't too bad since I'm in NM.

I go into the mountains and want dependability. I have never been stranded [knock on wood] I have a lot of faith in my Monty. . I figured my Monty has lasted 19 years and never broke down etc, So, Hopefully I will get another 19 years with the new parts. Nothing on my Monty is Chinese, that I know of. In 1994 the Monteros and Diamante were the only models made in Japan. Happy Trails............

Cheers
