Mexico route information?-->Hermosillo-Guadalajara-Queretaro

Anyone ridden in the last year or so the west side of Mexico around Hermosillo to Guadalajara to Queretaro?

I'm taking intensive Spanish classes in late February in Queretaro (a few hours north of Mexico City) and am going to ride down on my NX250.

Looking for route suggestions besides Hwy 15, if anyone knows some good 'libre' roads besides the 'cuota'.

I'm also considering the route following Rio Sonora, crossing at Naco rather than Nogales, but not sure about riding alone from Alamos to El Fuerte, though I'd LOVE to. I would drive in a vehicle no problem (I have several times), but not so sure on my little bike if I have to make a fast getaway.

I know Sonora well down to Los Mochis but not much at all after that.

And any great places to stay (a little more suitable for a lady traveling alone than the usual biker place though!).

Thanks!

The Naco crossing, while nice and quiet, doesn't have the Banjercito to get your TVIP issued, so we've started crossing at Nogales or Agua Prieta. Both are pretty easy to get through and well organized for your FM-T and TVIP.

You might consider going through Aconchi, East of the 15, (I'll grab my map and get you some road #s when I'm at home). It's a good place to camp at the hot springs (which rock, btw) for about $5 per person.

The road(s) from Alamos to El Fuerte aren't bad at all, think dirt forest service roads, and the route isn't too tough....but we did stop and ask at several ranches which was the right way and made it in about 3-4 hours in the Troopy. I'll see if I have a track log or some points....

And I have a friend who runs SierraMadre Moto Adventures and is based out of Alamos if you need a place to stay there, I'm sure he'd be game.

The Naco crossing is indeed much easier but I didn't know about the lack of the bank, thanks for that. Nogales truck crossing is fine for me.

I'm probably not going to camp on this trip, partly because I haven't figured out how to carry that stuff on the bike yet - it's lighter and easier if I just have my clothes for Queretaro. Though Aconchi sounds tempting! (you're not afraid of microbes in the hot springs :Wow1:? i keep hearing horror stories about menengitis . . .)

I've corresponded with Richard Schneider of Sierra Madre Moto Adventures - good idea, if I make it to Alamos!

Thanks H!

Taking intensive Spanish for a few weeks - I'm doing more work in old Mex, and my business-level Espanol isn't up to it!

Giant loop - bungees - hmmmm - maybe that's it!

Mostly I just want to keep it simple for my first trip, alone. I had a hard enough time finding places to camp when traveling in my Land Cruiser there. And from Guadalajara to Queretaro I'm not sure there is anything but RV parks type camping anyway - it's pretty populated with farms and ranches (where I prefer not to camp alone - not for safety but because you become the center of attention for a zillion kids all the time . . . fun, for a while!).

I would recommend 54 from Zacatecas to Guadalajara. Great road with some really nice scenery. There's a little open air restaurant on a corner on the right side of the road in the little town of Tabasco about 1/2 way between that has some of the best Pollo Asado ever! It's pretty hard to miss, because of the smoke from the bbq's right next to the road.

The road pop's up right into the chaos of N. Guadalajara which is a bit shocking.

It's pretty easy to stay off the quota roads where-ever you go. There is almost always a libre that will get you where you're going, if not just a bit slower.

I just forgot about this discussion, sorry.

If you need the rack of my Nx250 I can send it to you along with the bags, maybe I can get it back at the Expo, I will send you an idea of a route that I think you will like, you can stay @ Los Mochis of course, plenty of space here.

You have exact dates? maybe we could do Alamos to Mazatlan with a couple of friends If you like.

Saludos
