Michelin XZL

I'm almost certain those are not produced anymore. Every once and awhile you'll see a few scragglers pop up on ebay but I haven't seen a full (new) set.

What size are you looking for?

I get that. They're roughly £150 across the pond, so I suppose it's not that much of a premium. They're on the truck I bought but they're in God awful condition...

Haha, I was just having this conversation with an interested party(he's on this site)

The XZL is likely the best looking tire on a land rover(next to the XCL of course). It is not the best tire, it is not a perfect tire. It was fitted to military defenders because it's incredibly strong and takes forever to wear for how aggressive it is. It performs very well over a variety of surfaces, and does pretty poorly on others(take these on ice if you have a death wish).

The XZL is a very pricey tire, no question there. Even at the price, we have a hard time keeping them in stock.

They will in fact be discontinued within the next couple years though, so do be prepared for that, I know Chris Snell is!

I've got a NTO set from a 110 (long story) that are great fun to put on the 80"...even if I'm the only one in town that thinks they're cool :)

Holy cow. Are they worth the expense?

Yes, they are. They are not the highest performing tire in the mud or snow or ice--that's not why you buy them. You buy them because they are tough as nails. These are the tires you want when you're 100 miles from pavement in Southern Utah on rocky, nasty trails. I have personally never seen an XZL flat, though I've seen KM2s, ATs, and MT/Rs flat in the same conditions. The sidewalls are incredibly strong and heavy.

I have two pallets of brand new XZLs stacked high in my garage. That's how much I like these tires: I wanted to always make sure I had them.

Are you concerned with them becoming dry-rotted if stored for many years? I know conventional tires will but did not know if that was the necessarily case with military-style tires.

That's one of the best parts, the XZL's rubber compound is so far superior to consumer grade rubber. These tires will last decades.
