Mid-Size vs Full-Size (Astrofari vs E350)

Years ago I put a GSXR in the back of an Astro, but I had to remove the windscreen for clearance at the back door. Not sure how you would fit a dirtbike which is way taller. Maybe I remember it wrong tho, it's been some time.

Stroverlander, do you think you would get a single bed down the driver's side and a dirt bike on the cargo door side?

I don't love my bike so much that I need to sleep with it, but out of sight out of mind is my goal.

I'm pretty sure my air mattress would fit, especially if you move the rear of the bike as far over to the passenger side as possible. I use a Baxley wheel chock so can position bike over to side as far as possible. Next time I load a bike, I'll measure it.

The right ramp and angle helps and also tilting the bike as you load it allows even tall race windscreens to clear though sometimes mirrors need to be removed on streetbikes. I fit my Husqvarna supermoto bike in by compressing the fork and have squeezed a KTM 640 enduro in there as well. At some point, I'll probably purchase a Moto-Tote or Versa-Haul hitch mount carrier for my supermoto/enduro bike needs, interior stays cleaner that way too.

Either size vehicle has it's merits. I've been happy with my full-size van (aside from the mechanical/electrical issue I have going on). A full-size with regular body is surprisingly maneuverable and fits into most places. You can put a Thule box on the top and it will look like the family truckster! My Chevy with a 5.3L V8 gets 20-22 MPG if I keep the cruise at 57-60 MPH on the highway.

One suggestion if you plan to stealth camp is get the windows starting behind the front doors treated with limo tint. You can do curtains/blinds as well but mine has the limo tint and you can't see anything even with your face pressed against the glass during the day. At night, you can see in if there is a light on inside so that is where the curtains will help. Then install a curtain behind the front seats creating a sleeping compartment. Looking through the front windows, the vehicle apears vacant while you sleep, read, etc. in the back.

I would also cruise through the Storage Solutions forum to give you ideas of how to build out the back end.

Have fun!
