Might buy a 2005 4Runner

First things first, I've got a 2015 Jeep Wrangler JKU and love it. However, I recently bought a franchise and need a vehicle that's reliable and more of a daily driver than my Jeep is, in the comfort level. I don't want to use my Jeep because it's my fun vehicle, it's going to get a lift someday and I've got some lights to put on it. I don't want it held back by not being able to take the top off or modify it.

The 2005 4Runner I'm looking at has 136k on the clock, I know just broken in... right? It appears to be well taken care of and is clean. It's not an SR5 or limited, not sure of the actual model name.

So what are the thoughts here? Is it work $9k? If in good condition? Will it last a year or two? Issues I should check for?

I know Toyota's are legendary reliability but I know some models and years have issues.

Thanks in advance!

If it's the V6, it's a timing chain so no normal maintenance there. The V8 is a timing belt change every 100k or so I believe.

I have an '08 Limited V6 with 136,xxx and would drive to Alaska tomorrow without hesitation. It is my DD and family vehicle, pulls a trailer well, drives great and is an excellent vehicle.

Check the usual for leaks, etc but give a good look under for any rust. Some of them seem to have some issues in certain areas of the country. Other than that, great vehicle and way better ON the road than the jeep!

Buy it. If maintained, no worries.

Make sure the 4x4 switch works, if they never used the switch, I've heard of them seizing up.

WIll it last a year or two? Yup, you're coming from a domestic or a Land Rover background :coffeedrink: Of course, it'll last many years and once you start to wheel it and DD it, you'll probably dump the Jeep. Since you just bought a franchise, you're hemorrhaging money, which means to me dump the Jeep and enjoy the Toyota. Money should be going to make more money, not spending it on a liability like a vehicle. Of course, I'm a tad biased!

I paid 10.500 a year ago for a 2005 SR5 4x4 V8. I got a good deal - bought it from the original owner with 118,000 on it, and every receipt since inception. It's dead reliable. The V8 gets crappy gas mileage but the engine is smoooooth. It feels like the brakes are undersized for the size of the truck, but those are about it. Love the truck already, does everything I ask of it in comfort and cruises the interstate effortlessly.
