Mine is surprisingly quick. Of course it being completely stock and with a manual really helps.

Mine's really not that bad, But it always leaves me wanting more. 35's with 4.10's and a 4.6 it does pretty good if you get into it.. No torque though. I'm putting 4.56's and a 5.0L engine in it and see how it does.. If it still leaves me wanting I'll give up and drop a 300 TDI in it.. Resign myself to "slower"

Discos I 1998 and the last batch in 1999 are the best. Tdi300 are the pick of the bunch and far more reliable than the Toyota series 80.90 & 100 which here on tough conditions give problems with front diff, wheel bearings and transfer cases
My Disco is 1998. I purchased it with 98000 km 2 1/2 years ago. I have driven 72000 km in this time and only replaced timing belts once and belt tensioner and the stater motor. All this replacements are common in any car
I cannot understand what happens over there. Perhaps luck of maintenance (lube & filters, etc)
I would said, if you like a Land Rover, spend the money once and get a Tdi300
Cheers

Unfortunately, for us up here we do not get any diesel Land Rovers. Motor swaps and importation with mountains of paperwork and money are the only way for most of us to get a contemporary Landie oil burner.:(

Ok, you Discologist do not give up, a Isuzu 4BD1T is heaps better that the Tdi 300. Comes in Isuzu trucks and they are cheap and strong as a bull.
Cheers
