Military Ambulance Box Value?

I have the opportunity to purchase a green of course Chevrolet M1010 Military Ambulance BOX only that has been removed from a late 1980's early 1990's square body Military Ambulance.

Box is complete with A/C and everything inside. Again this is the box only removed from the original truck. Not sure how good a start it would be as a living space for another truck install however I am willing to look and see.

This leads to my question:

What type of dollar value would is this box only worth if you were able to make an offer to purchase the box only?

Having a M1010 currently and owned another one previously, I have seen those go for as low as $750 to about $2000. Once stripped, the inside is 109" deep, 75" wide and 65" tall. If you're over 5'4" tall, you likely will not be able to stand up straight unless you do some form of popup/raised roof. They are well built but much lighter than a typical civilian ambo box. Also exterior width is as wide as a Chevy squarebody truck. Newer trucks are wider than the box in most cases but that means you won't have any side clearance issues. Forget about using the A/C or heater that are in them. First they are 24v systems. The A/C still needs an engine driven compressor and the heater is for diesel.

Do a search for M1010 on this site and you will find a number of builds. Some very cool setups. I am still in the process of planning my build and currently taking care of any mechanical/maintenance items on the M1010 itself.

Here is what my first one looked like after I stripped out everything.

Scrap aluminum value. Unless you're building another M1010 you can probably find a commercial box of similar size that would be easier to work with. As Mike said the AC is a no-go but you might be able to monkey around with the heater to get it to work.

Thanks for the responses. I have been following both of the builds.

I can buy the box for $500.00. Seems very reasonable however with the A/C and the heater pretty much useless I may reconsider.

That's probably a reasonable price given it's all aluminum. Like I said, you might be able to get the heater working but it'd need to be run off a separate tank since it's diesel (on the M1010 it's just siphoned off the main tank). I think one of the big drawbacks to me is the height. I like to go places that my RTT is almost too tall let alone something as high as that box.

It is not likely you will be able to use the heater either, since it requires 24v to operate and likely have to run the engine to keep the batteries up. There are much better heater options, which I will be going with as well.

$500 is a cheap start to a solid box, if the size works for you and will fit whatever you are putting it on.

Yes.

I may have just found the perfect truck upon which to mount it. Unfortunately the box size may not work.

Should know for sure by the end of next week.
