We had a customer show up with this 1966 1/4 ton cargo trailer and he wanted to transform it into a expedition trailer.

He dropped of the trailer with 35" tires a 3,500 lb axle and a roof top tent, and gave me a rough idea on what he was after.

She it still a work in progress, however she is taking shape as time progresses.

Let me know if you have any good inside as this is my first expedition trailer build

The lid is all cut out, I added a bonus compartment that is 3.0" wide that will face the rear of the trailer and have a flip up lid on the side. I figure this will be handy carrying long heavy tools, or a fishing pole or ????? as the bottom and inside will be fully sealed from the rest of the lid.

What else am I missing? I know the first time out there will be several ahhh haaa moments that will require the trailer to go under the knife again...any input you can give is appreciated.

Nice start! You may want to extend the tongue. On my jeep JK, this allows me to open the tailgate with trailer attached. Also, I can't recommend a Maxcoupler highly enough. Those pintle hitches are great, but very noisy. If you're doing a RTT, you may want to add a stabilizer or drop down foot to the rear...some add a hitch receiver to accommodate such a device, along with other carriers.

I did that to my Jumping Jack.... its worth its weight in beer!

good looking out hannibal. I think the one from camping world is to short? I will have to measure when I get home. I just purchased a Hannibal 1.2 tent from a member on here! I look forward to testing it to it's fullest! Heard many great things about them!

Its the same item that is for sale on Camping world, we use them on our Sierra 4x4 Trailers also. If you need any thing for your tent let us know, you will love you Hannibal tent.

Some ideas

Looks to be a bit late, but nevertheless... I would have extended the front tongue another couple of feet, it's much easier to handle. You then could also add a 19gal water tank from AT trailers. the taller the lid the more useful the inside becomes, I thought mine was too high 7" but turns out it really is nice when you want to throw chairs and the like on top of a already full trailer. I put lights inside and LED lights on all four corners outside, nice at night! And probably the coolest thing is the lift I used to open and shut the lid. Bought it on ebay for 100.00, works off the batterys in the front nose box and it'll lift any weight (lid, RTT, wife in RTT!) believe me its GREAT. I put a compressed air bottle inside and plumbed it outside the back. DONT FORGET TO PUT A RECEIVER ON THE BACK..you will want one there sooner or later.. for a bike rack or??

Does the trailer still have the parking brake? I like that box on the tongue, but it looks like it would interfere with the parking brake lever. Any idea what brand that box is?

Looks like the same as the one I have, got it on line from Jeggs Automotive. All aluminum and pretty spendy... 300.00 or so

Looks great so far! I love the style you're adding to it!

The tube that you ran along the outside of the fenders, how did you get the sharp corners to look like that? It doesn't look like they have been ground down smooth, but I know my bender won't make corners like that
