Military Expedition M 416 Trailer Built by Swag Off Road

I got a box from Harbor Freight for $100. Mounted it on tongue on top of a couple pieces of 1"x1" to clear the casting. Moved it forward to clear the brake.

The tube that you ran along the outside of the fenders, how did you get the sharp corners to look like that? It doesn't look like they have been ground down smooth, but I know my bender won't make corners like that

Miter cut the tube, weld it up and grind it down to shape with a flap disc, then smooth it out with a scotch pad on your grinder. It is pretty tricky getting the inside of the corners.....grinding can be as much of an acquired skill as welding when it comes down to the details.

Thanks for the feed back. The Jeep Wrangler that will be towing this has a one of my drop down tailgate kits installed so the tailgate should easily clear the the hitch....however time will tell.

As for paint I'm not sure what color the customer has in mind.

We have the lid almost finished, as well as the 3" wide storage compartment build into the lid. Today we will attach the hinges and weld angle iron to the inside bottom edge to provide a flat surface and apply some weather stripping to keep water out.

Wiring is all done. I need to build some light buckets, mount the tent, locks, gas struts and a high lift jack.

I should have that wrapped up this week. :sombrero:

I'm in the market for 3 quality latches to keep the lid closed. I would like one of them to be pad lockable? What are you all using. I didn't see anything on Mc Mastercarr's website.

McMaster-Carr should have them. Use the ones similar to the latches on an old popup camper. They are adjustable for tension and have a spot to put a lock thru. Try page 2497

I built a rack for my TJ a few years ago had it powdercoated and I have only used it a couple times. I'm digging the look and fitment on the lid of this trailer. I'm not that partial to it, I will see if the customer likes it as much as I do on his trailer.

Here are a few additional pictures.

Still need struts, kick stand, bottle opener, latches and light buckets.

I robbed the handles off my large Costco stainless steel tool box. I never did install them and knew sooner or later I would find a good use for them. As for the 1.25" x .125 angle iron I just tacked welded it to the inside edge using the lip of the trailer as my straight edge.

The customer came by and wanted to make a few changes, starting with extending the hitch and adding an off road hitch.

An hour later whalll laa.

I am really liking the "kit" idea on the hitch...That is very impressive and I would be one of the first on the ist to pick one up!

Very nice hitch coupler, but what about 1 more piece or bearing of rotation, instead of the bolt threads, for side to side rotation on pitches where one wheel of the trailer is much lower than the other? Lengthening the tongue is a must, I'm glad your customer went for it. Maybe you could now add a tongue box while your at it?.....never mind....I see you already are framing supports for one.
