military spec J8 available to mining companies in the US

This is interesting, it seems that the military j8 is available to mining companies in the US for use underground. I wonder how much one of these costs. I'm guessing alot of the J8 specific parts would be available through this dealer as well.

They have been all along. So are 70's series Land Cruisers and other such beasts.

I see them up here in the Yukon from time to time, being moved into mines.

I remember back when jeeps had leaf springs, then the tj came out and everyone was so happy to finally get coils. Now everyone wants the leafs again? Everyone always wants what they cant have.

Can someone explain why on gods green earth this isn't available for us commoners to buy?

Because it doesn't pass crash safety and emissions laws set by the government of your country.
(or, at least, it's never been proven that it does i.e. they didn't spend millions getting it certified.)

That doesn't mean somebody like AEV or these guys couldn't come along and offer parts essentially making it a build it yourself kit car... Those don't have to go through the whole huge safety certification. Engine is another story but we do have a couple of the VM diesels that have passed emissions EPA. Or you could go with a Mercedes diesel or VW diesel; or any number of petrol engines like the dance aluminium block v8's or what I think is a great option the newer chevy straight 4 aluminium blocks that put out great power numbers... But then again what is on it that you can't do yourself already if you have the skills to build it as a kit car? Only thing that comes to mind is the frame... If you just plate one side of your frame in an extra layer of 1/8" (3.2mm) steel then it aught to be closer.

Has anyone broken a jeep jk frame from exceeding capacity?

Has anybody ever been hard it enough on one consistently enough though, yeah. It isn't about a couple times event... It is fatigue (repeated cycling). Most CJ frames don't break until they are 15-30 years old...

All four corners with lesf springs would be bad. Leaf springs in the rear would be better for carrying loads.
