Military trailer spare tire location?

Hello. I am new here. I bought a m100 trailer or similar (I still need to figure out what it is but it’s not an M416). I want to take a matching spare tire with me. I have seen the option of taking it under the trailer, I was thinking on maybe installing a carrier in the front of the bed. Installing same size tires as the tow rig is not an option right now. I would like to see what else you guys have done.

Can you guys post pictures of your trailer spare tire location?

Thanks,

Since I tow my M416 with both my Jeeps, I've been contemplting this myself.

My CJ has the same wheel, so it's good, but my XJ has the 5 on 4.5 pattern.

I've been thinking of using a stock CJ7 swing out tire carrier, or building one similar.

On the tongue is an option, but it adds weight, and I have enough tongue weight now.

I have seen them stowed under the rear of the trailer, using a 'cable and crank' system from a pickup.

This seemed to work, and not loose to much clearance, as the tire was above the axle. If you plan on taking the trailer over trails, this option may not be good, as it will decrease departure angle.

Some pics of waht others have done would be good.

I'm contemplating something along these lines.
Tho' I'd probably do it on the rear as I have no tailgate and like the balance of that better.

If you have a 5x4.5....you could look for a used yj/tj oem tire carrier. That's my plan for a spare location.......just need to get a swing out build

My spare is under the front of the frame. It is full height, but not full width of the M/Ts. My axles are flipped, so there is plenty of room and no clearance issues on the trail.

Here is photo of it before it was mine... you may need to reduce the contrast or bright the photo to see the spare tire clearly, but it is there.

...and Don's write up on what components he used for the build.

Thanks for the replies guys. I like the idea of skinny tire under but I don't know how that would work off-road. My axles are flipped but I am thinking on flipping it back to normal since it seats higher than my Jeep right now. What is the skinniest 30" tire available?

I really like to built or adapt a swing arm for the rear since the trailer has a tailgate. Anyone has adapted a SUV/truck swing away tire carrier to their trailer?

Thanks!

ohh btw thats a very nice trailer go4aryd!

What are you using to hold it up there? I did the same for a trip with a ratchet strap, but was not ideal.

I see the link now. Sorry.

Spare Tire location

I used a tire carrier from a 97 wrangler and mounted to the rear of my trailer...
