Hi ! we are travelling around America. Now we are in California, Santa Cruz. We have a problem with our van. We think that it has a problem in the carburator.
Now the van can't start.
Here in Santa Cruz, The mechanic cost between U$$80 and U$$90 per hour. So expensive!
So, we want to know if somebody can help us to fix the car or know somebody who can help us ? any information willl be great
The mitsubishi is 4x4. Gasoline. Engine 2.0
We think that the problem could be the carburator (We do not open for almost a year and the fault seems to be that), or an electrical issue or maybe the gas pump.
Thank you !!!

I cant recommend anyone specific that far north, but if you check craigslist you may be able to find someone cheaper. Unemployment is high in ca, so a lot of people are looking for extra work

Good Luck

engine no start.

What happened prior to it stopping working - lack of power ? stumbling ? or did it go from working fine to nothing ?

main things to try- ie to test wether its electrical or a fuel problem.

Look into the carb while you manually pull the cable- you should see and smell fuel- if not

spray WD40 or similar uno toco de gasolina into the carb while trying to start the car- if the car sort of starts then you have spark and its a fuel problem.

for checking if its electric remove a spark plug conect back to the lead and rest against the engine try starting the car- you should see and hear a spark.

So let us know wether its fuel or electric thats the issue..

Thank you very much for answer.!!
we made what you say about the carburator and We remove the spark plug and we have spark.
that´s why we dont know what we can do.
It could be problem inside of carburator or an electric problem that we can´t see

More details please....(try posting on Delica.ca (most of our L300 are diesels))

What year?
It has a carb and not injected?
Symptoms of what happened?
Country of the L300 was made for?

If it is a carb then:
when you floor it does fuel squirt? if not most likely a fuel to carb problem (bad pump, filter, line, pickup....)
It has spark? yes
It has compression? did not break the timing belt?
pour little gas down the carb (if it is a carb) see if it fires -if so it is a fuel problem...likely a new pump and filter will get you going..

The 2.0L was used in tons of US model cars....should be an easy fix...

Delica site has the manuals for the gas motor and electrical in the downloads section.

Motor should be a 4G52 I think: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Astron_engine

I have a 2L carb from a Mitsubishi Mighty Max that you can have for the shipping cost. I'm in NorCal, north of Sacramento a bit.

Where exactly are you in town?
I have tools but no experience with your van. Do you have a repair manual for your car so that it is easy to diagnose.
If it as a standard carb it shouldn't be difficult to rebuild if needed, just need to find a US car that uses it.

Thank you for answer!

The year of the van is 1993.
it has a carb.
it is Made in Japan
the engine is 4G63, 4 cylinders, 8 valves, 2.0 CC, Gasoline, Carburetor.

The first flaw was while the van was walking and suddenly failure as if it hadn´t gasoline. I turn off the engine and after that when I turn on it worked.
the flaw was increasingly. Now, it doesn´t start.

The things I made were:
1- I changed the fuel pump and filter.
2- I place in the gas tank carburetor cleaners
3- I check the distributor. I verify the rotor and cover. Are fine. I changed the platinum and capacitor.
4- I changed the coil
5- I changed the spark plugs

At this moment the van doesn´t start. it has spark at the spark plug wires, the timing belt is OK.
When I start the truck carburetor makes small explosions.

Thank you for your help.
Do you think I could do anything else ?

Thank you for the web page!!!
