We were in Moab last Friday. We love it there. We've been 4 times in the last 2.5 years. We would move there if we could find jobs.

Awesome. I was just there a few months ago and I'm wanting to go again this summer. Just need to find someone to go with for a weekend.

I once lived there as a young man 35 years ago, when Ed Abbey was still known to show up in one of the bars off of Main Street. I would happily move back, if it was still as it was then - alas, it is too big and there are too many people there all the time now. Has completely lost the small-town charm it once had. Monticello or even better Blanding is still a temptation though.

Nostalgia - my '73 (?) F-250 on the Dewey Bridge in 1978:

I'm heading there this October to meet up with my brother who is driving from NorCal. I will be driving from the east coast. I haven't been this pumped about a trip in some time. It will be my first road trip of this magnitude. Thanks for the pics!

My wife and I spent a couple nights in Moab last month with a whirlwind trip thru Arches NP. Definitely on my list of places to go back and spend more time. Picture of the Tacoma just outside of Arches.

If anyone's interested, I put this GPS POI file of Moab trail heads together awhile back. Just download and install to your GPS using Garmin's POI Loader or the freeware EasyGPS. The same standard cautions and disclaimers apply as whenever you follow a GPS direction, I just wanted to add a resource to this thread for anyone planning a trip.

Nice pics by the way :sombrero:

GPS POI file I made with all (?) the trail-heads, download the file here: www.poi-factory.com/node/31272
here's the list of POIs in the file: Moab, Utah GPS POIs

Cool, where are you camped? I did not know there was anything like that in which you could legally camp! What a stunning local!

Yeah, my wife and I have thought about it as well. It would be a nice place to live, then again it is bloody HOT there in the summer time!

We ALWAYS stay at the Lazy Lizard! You just can not beat $30 per night for a family of four! (even during EJS)

Funny enough Moab is less than 3 hours away, and it is still hard for us to get there. We never take vacation time to go, so it ends up being a fight the escape traffic on a Friday night, and then fight the return traffic on Sunday night. The drive is just so unpleasant that we simply do not go as much as we would like.

Anyhow, if you are into construction, I understand they are always looking for people down there.

When was it that Dewey Bridge closed? I remember crossing it single-file with my learner's permit :)

...right, but while the other bridge was being built, you could still drive over, that was late 80s'ish?
