Update
The cooler I initially had was dysfunctional and it wasn't entirely my own ignorance. Tested it again with both AC and DC and worked fine and cooled it right down. Switched it over, turned the temp dial to 0 and ran it again on propane only to find it lost all of its kick and it warmed up again!
So it was time to pack it back up and drag it back to the store, exchanged it for another and problem solved! Its doing what it claims to.
The one thing I am questioning regarding the cooling problems with the first one, is whether or not container around the condenser or the evaporator above the flame became engulfed in dead mosquitoes and restricted its heating and evaporating of ammonia. I am no HVAC guru and have no formal experience dealing with propane coolers, but its hard to believe that the thousands of mosquitoes piled inside the cooler had no negative impact on its performance. That being said, I hadn't tested the propane cooling capabilities of the cooler prior to taking it to the lake and I am merely speculating. Regardless, it was ice cold under 120 and within one night, the entire cooler was full of dead skeeters and warm by the next morning.
As a solution, I am bringing the gazebo to keep the night flying leaches out. And hopefully have a month on the island with cold beer and food that isn't being reverse cooled.
