STUCK .... NEED ADVICE

Hey Fellas,

Need some Expo opinions and insight here ....

Working on the Pelican Case swing out design and I'm scratching my head on a latch setup.

I should have done this BEFORE it went to paint, but not knowing how long the paint would take, and scheduling it around work I'm left in this situation.

How could I go about securing this swing out in the closed position WITHOUT grinding off the paint and welding on the trailer!?

Something that preferably would bolt on. :ylsmoke:

Most of the Destaco latches are all bolt on. I'd use one of those.

Thanks for chiming in Box Rocket. Ive read your thread, nice build.

Ive used them before. I think I'm going to add a vertical piece of square tubing like you did to attach the swing out in the closed position.

What are these called and where did you get them?

Nothing at the moment. Waiting on a set of lock in/out drawer slides to build a kitchen/chuck box inside the case.

Wired up the license plate LED lights this evening amongst other things.
I used 2 license plate LED bolts - they may be small but they sure put out some light!

Sorry for the late reply. Those tabs are one I found at my local metal supplier (Wasatch Steel). They are the female side of what they call a "batwing hinge". The male side looks identical but has a metal post about 1" long. The female side is just a hole. I have never used the full hinge but I use those female sides for all kinds of stuff.

Thought I would post an update ...

I havent seen anyone on here do this mod yet, so thought I would make an Expo contribution!

I ordered these cheapo daytime running LED running lights off eBay. Really thin and $9.98 with free shipping from China.

Couldnt pass it up for the price, and wow I am amazed the amount of light they throw out!
I mounted them under the lip where the trailer lid rests to use as light for the table I built for the fender. The provided 3M backing tape seems to be pretty stout.
I changed the cheap thin gauge wire for something a little more heavy duty. Wired them together and ran them to an open switch I had on the tongue box

Here are the results:

I also rattle canned my fenders using Duplicolor spray bed liner from Autozone. The texture it lays down is very forgiving (meaning an amateur like me can do it with good results!), and it makes touch ups a breeze too

Still working on the Pelican case kitchen.

Word to the wise .... DO NOT ORDER drawer slides from www.drawerslides.com
I ordered a set of lock in/lock out 12" drawer slides from them on the 5th Jan. They only just showed up (46 days later!), after I had to contact the BBB about their lack of communication, and not being able to get a refund or tracking number. I had already made my mind up that they were not going to come, when BAM they arrived the other day out the blue without warning!

More on the kitchen to follow soon as I start piecing it all together ...

More progress for those that are interested ...

Painted up the swing arm and ran the electrical wires through the frame for the license plate and interior lights:

That rocker switch is for an LED light inside the box

I had a 12v LED spot light laying around that I wired into the reverse lights to help with backing up at night

Added a support leg for if/when we have a heavy stew on!
