Water crossings have never been an issue for me. I've always done them in 2wd and have even stopped in the middle with no indication of possibly getting stuck.

I did the Mojave river crossings in January and it was a little deeper then in the photos above. I actually ended up pulling a sprinter van out of one of the crossings that had stalled after ingesting too much water.
