Yes, and yes.

It's Aluminum for the car-top-tent. Many people use them for the old model also. (the old ladder was a piece of junk!)

Here's a picture of the identical one on our tent. (click for full size)

I can take a picture of the actual ladder when i get home tonight, but i assure you its brand new and still in clear plastic.

How have you liked the car-top-tent? I have been pretty intruiged by their price, but its hard because I usually am of the mind you get what you pay for. So for half the price of an ezi-awn or Overlander I wonder if they are half the quality. The only problem is that they seem to only have one size and with a family of four I was looking at the king sized overlander large, or the ezi-awn 2200. But 2 grand!! ouch. I could maybe get two of these and put one on the jeep for my kids and one on a trailer for us...what do you think?

We love it. Works just as good as the high end stuff IMHO. May not last 5 years.. may only last 3.. but heck, for the price i can buy two. I've seen the high end stuff in person and to me, its very comparable. The material may not be 'as thick', but like i said for $899. Im fine with it. Next go around we may step up to a higher end. I consider them a entree level RTT and for anyone that wants to see if they're going to like it first. I could talk more about it , but this is the wrong section for that. They're coming out with a larger size for this model. You should check with Mel at Car-top-tent.com.

thanks for the info, btw I loved your site. Will show the wife that one. PM me if you feel the need to talk more about the tents. There is two for sale right now on this and other sites, I could get both for 900. I am waiting to see if the one has a ladder, if not I will get this one from you. How high does the ladder go before you need the extention, and how much further is that?

Right on thank you. If you don't end up liking them, you could always turn around and sell them.

I will measure the ladder tonight when i take pics.

Pics

From the floor to the top is 45 inches. So double that is 90, fully extended. The ladder mounts with bolt tabs to a existing bracket on the tent, but you can fab up something if you need too.

Do you think it would work with Bob's older style tent. With two kids the size of his is pretty attractive.

People have done it. I don't have the details on how they did it though. Wouldn't be too hard with some fab experience.

Well Bob and I are working some details out, I think I may be getting his tent, but with the ladder problems I'd love yours to use instead.

Well crap. Lemme know if this falls through.

Gillz im sorry man. If it falls through you'll be the first to know. Also, if you call up Mel at car-top-tent.com, im sure he'll sell you the new style ladder. I've heard of other people buying them. I just have no clue how much he sells them for. Hes a super nice guy to deal with.
