Montero 96 SR

Hi everyone,

I’m new here and to Mitsubishi’s so apologies if I ask a silly question. I finally found the truck I was looking for and I’m about to start all the essential maintenance needed to get it up and running and safe on/off road. It’s a montero SR 96 with 125k on the clock.

I just bought the factory manuals and I’m hoping to do some of the engine work with at home. I’m going to do all the recommenced maintenance belts/pumps/seals but I was wondering if anyone knows of aftermarket parts that are recommended over OEM? All I could find so far was aisin water pump. Is there a list of all the part numbers for the timing belt parts etc?

Thanks

Congrats! Google Mitsubishi links there you can download a PDF file of the service manual for free. Hopefully you can return the manuals you bought.

Thanks I saw the PDF’s but it’s easier for me with the manuals. I can sell them on when I’m finished or if anyone local on here needs a borrow they are more than welcome

nice! i drove that exact model and color ('95 year though) from about 1997-2002. great car. i also had a 1983 montero sport lifted with 37" mud tires, and my parents had a 1993 montero.

I've got a set of the seals you'll want when servicing that motor. Ended up using a different kit on mine so these are for sale. Save you a few bucks if youre going to tear it down.

Thanks I’m interested in them. Why did you go for a different kit?

Thanks for the link, this may be a stupid question but how do I know if mine is a gen 2 or 2.5? I read that thread earlier this week but wasn’t 100% if it was for my truck
