I'm not gonna abuse the vehicle and I'm down to use oem fluid. I'm just trying to learn more and see if it really truly is a great underrated vehicle. Is it similar to the outlander?

I'm looking at gen 2's mostly but I'm not sure when the generations swap. There's a lot of 2001-2003 sports for sale in my area all between 120,000 and 160,000 miles.

Gen2 Montero is 92-00. Gen1 is... before that. Gen3 is 01-06, with 03+ all getting the better 5spd trans and a bigger 3.8 motor. 01-02 Limited has the better 5spd trans and 01-02 XLS has Gen2 carryover trans and motor, essentially.

I don't know much about the Sport "generation" or "facelift" changes. They're mostly the same, mechanically. Later years get the bigger 3.5 motor, and somewhere in there there's coil springs vs bars or something.

The only Montero of any kind we got stateside that could possibly be compared to an Outlander would be Gen3, and even then.... nah.

I was just wondering if there was any reason the outlander was the same. But. There's generally so many sports for sale in my area. I see them sometimes always an old guy but they seem to run perfect and look great

Outlander could be had with same-ish motor as the Gen3 Montero, but similarities stop there. Outlander is a front wheel drive car-based SUV-ish thing. Montero is a RWD based large unibody SUV.
