Montero vs Tacoma

Thanks everyone for the advice and opinions. My credit union said the 2.99% didn't sound right as that year vehicle is listed for them at 10.99%

I left a message for the sales guy to explain their interest rate and revealed a little more truth to them...I was offered $25,700 at the local Toyota dealer for my Tacoma as a trade in.

Having called them out on the car being on ebay with a "best offer" option after being told repeatedly the price was firm. I also offered them a lowball from their asking price of $5000 otd for the Montero.

His reply was..."we don't try and make $3k on a $7k vehicle, and the Montero sold this morning."

HA!

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
This is a tough one since you're looking at it as more of a car for car thing rather than a performance comparison.

Aside from what others have mentioned already i'll add that a Japanese made Mitsubishi is more reliable than a Japanese made Toyota in my experiences and an American made Toyota is more reliable than an American made Mitsubishi. The quality of the Montero is much higher than the Tacoma (all years no exceptions) in all the little things that make a Montero. For example I carpool with a dude who owns a '12 Tacoma with roughly 40k miles and we both agree that my '99 Montero with 208k miles is quieter and the interior is much more solid.
I suggest you take the Monty out on a test drive and see how you like it.

I also have a 1993 Toyota Hilux so i'm not an anti Toyota guy for the record.

For the time being I will hold on to the taco and make other adjustments as needed.

My biggest burdens are back taxes from a business I owned and school loans.

Shhheeewww school loans! I feel ya! Ive deferred mine for 2 years and it makes me sick the interest ive accrued over that time.
Good luck man

I deferred mine even longer and owe way more now than I obviously took out!

I can only afford to pay the interest at this point. All said and done I could have paid for law/medical school!

A trade school would have been much more beneficial and cheaper!
