It could be a mechanical money pit/basket case, but I tend to look on the bright side.
Let's suppose the timing belt tensioner has failed, maybe the "spun bearing" is really a light knock due to that common ailment. Maybe he has a couple of collapsed or broken lifters? Many of these issues familiar to us might sound like the death knell to an inexperienced local mechanic or non-gearhead Montero owner. The only way I would know for sure it has a "spun bearing" is to disassemble and inspect. I doubt anyone has done that due to cost. It's not in the repair shop, so it may still be drive-able, which again makes me optimistic that someone has assumed the worst based on noise, and hasn't accurately diagnosed the problem.
It certainly looks like a clean complete truck to me otherwise. Depending on how mechanically sharp you are, I'd at least have a conversation with the owner, speak with the mechanic doing the diagnosis, and/or go check it out myself.
