I'd be more willing to install metal louver vents simlar to those found on an FJ40... or a combination of cowl and louvers...
I installed the dual Ford Contour fan setup on my montero after two factory fan clutches failed on me in quick succession. I got a controller from DC controls which took a little while to get but it has been basically perfect ever since. I like that the controller will run the fans at high or low speed based on the coolant temp and I really like that the fan will run for a while after the engine is shut off. I haven't done it yet but was thinking about putting a switch on the ground circuit to shut off the fans for water crossings. I wouldn't have done electric fans if I hadn't had the clutch failures but considering I did the swap for less than what Mitsubishi clutch costs, I'm happy.

Hi guys I have taken out the power sapping viscous, because the viscous unit went anyway, and installed a pacet 16" single electric fan which comes on at 90 degrees, I have wired up a simple led light, so that when the fan is on, the light is on. It cruises better with less noise and have put two hilux bonnet vents in to dissipate the heat.why not consider adding a switch, and using a 5 pin relay for the A/C fan? this way, it will run with the A/C off. keep your reliable mech fan, and have the added cooling of a second fan that is already there, and factory reliable.
