15 inches makes a big difference in weight and wind drag. When the top is up and slide out, the interior is very spacious for a truck camper. So far I've seen 17 mpg @ 70 mph fully loaded with an engine that's not broken in yet.

Sorry to perplex. By the way, what is your cup of tea?

It's a cool camper, my post comes off a bit harsh. You had a dream and made it come true.

My cup of tea, in a nutshell, would be the XP camper. I just can't afford one of those and also don't like how long the wait is to order one.

I love it!

But two things I'd change.

I'd want it lower. Within the frame rails.

I not sure I understand losing a huge amount of storage space with the strange rear overhang angle? I'd square it out and have a nice outside accessible storage pod.

Thanks. The angle starts where the flat bed ends and extends out 2 feet and up 1 foot. Dimensions of the flatbed are 6.5' x 7'. I thought it would look odd to have this huge overhang coming straight out the back. As for storage, we have more than we need with all the exterior boxes. I think if you wanted something lower, you would have to do a chasis mount.
Price has been a topic of previous comments. I'm not sure where the $70k came from. If I go to the website and price out a flatbed and all the options that apply to my build, I come up with $38,143. What is not included is 3" insulated walls, 4 ply fabric, Blue Sea charging relay, Sofa, Extra batteries, Bathroom wall lifts, Slide out, Pass through and Aluminess boxes. Even with these extra items, I don't think that would add an extra $30k.

I too like the XP. If I recall correctly, the flatbed itself cost around $10k. I had mine done for 4, which is aluminum. Also, I didn't pay near the $70k stated in the article. Just do a price out on their website, I think the prices are reasonable, especially with low finance rates and terms. My camper payment is about $260 a month.
Also with the flatbed, here in SC, property taxes don't apply since its not considered a motorhome. We had a Tiger previously and I just couldn't justify paying a large payment and property tax on a vehicle that didn't get used regularly. I actually have more room, smaller footprint and less cost with this build.

Very cool camper Terra Ops! Nice choice of truck platform too. The best camper is the one you dream up to serve your specific needs. Who cares if others would rather have it lower, higher, shorter, longer, different brand, blah blah blah. What matters is it serves your needs and dreams. I think it is way cool. Congrats!

Terra Ops, I guess I am a little confused. You did or did not pay $70k for the camper?

I know Rob was in the design phase when I brought my TC back for repairs/warranty work... Sounded like he came through for you. Looks nice!

It sounds like he didn't pay 70k, and that Phoenix campers undercharged him (basically the camper was more work than expected). Phoenix is basically saying to replicate this camper in the future they would charge 70k.

Very creative and beautiful rig. Have a question about your flatbed. Who made it and are you happy with it?

Thanks for sharing.

Amazing in every way. Congrats.
Looking for input why you sold your tiger that was also superb for this? More space for 3 Kids?

One question for ya though....

How much does it weigh?

Thanks, I like your bias. Would like to know more about your build.
Your question on weight, I don't know:)
When I was initially planning this, I wanted the camper to go on the new Eco-diesel Ram 1500. After further discussions with Rob, it was not going to work.
At one point Rob guesstimated the weight at 1900. I know we are over that, just not sure how much. At this point I'm not sure it matters. The 2500 cummins has tons of power and the new suspension for 2014
has been completely overhauled. Having said that, I have changed out the factory shocks and installed rear hellwig air springs and front sumos. This has made a big difference.
