Most mileage on a JK?

Ok, I've got 105,000 on my 08 JKU and it's using oil (8 qts between oil changes) I'm curious, how the 3.8 is holding up for others. If you have over 100,000 miles on your 3.8l without major engine work post your mileage.

There must be more to this story. That's ridiculous!! Is there a hole in your oil pan? Did you do 100000 miles with no air filter? I worked for Chrysler for 13yrs as a mechanic, this is not normal. Have you pulled the plugs? Done any diag? Could be a broken oil control ring, dropped valve guide, bad valve seals..... I've seen these with over 300,000kms without engine mechanical issues

They are oil burners by reputation. Change the PCV and see where you end up. A significant improvement most of the time.

Some sort of lost...
Well known oil burners for sure. Chrysler/jeep has changed their opinion about "normal" oil consumption, due to the 3.8, to 1 quart per 500 miles.

2009 with 109,000 miles.

I run conventional 10w30 and use 1/2 qt to 1 qt between oil changes.

I purchased new and have had no mechanical issues to date.

Lol! i think thats actually a "max tolerance" spec written in every Chrysler engine service manual, as is 5psi minimum oil pressure! Clackidy-clack!

I have an 08 JKU with 119,000 miles on it and use about 1/2 quart between changes (every 3000 miles, 10w30 in the summer and 5w20 in the winter). The only problem I have had is coolant seeping around the intake gasket

That's the most I have heard of but not much more consumption. As said above change the PCV. GF had a 300 with the 3.5l that used almost that and it only had 44k on it and her aunt was the original owner and never driven hard etc. Chrysler gave the 1qt per 500 or 1000 miles speech and wouldn't do anything about it even under warrantee so she dumped it.

Thanks, for the reply's everyone. I did put a new PCV valve on it about two months ago but didn't help. I have the lifetime power train warranty that Chrysler gave with the 2008 models but, of course the dealership is trying to tell me it is my fault because they found some dust in the intake hose. Of course they are the last ones to have the hose off as they cleaned the throttle body on it about six month before it started using oil. The also left the oil plug gasket off the oil change before I started having problems. Didn't know it was low on oil until the oil pressure light came on. by that time it only had about two quarts left in it.

My friend bought an '07 with about 105mi on it a while ago. When he bought it, the oil on the stick was pretty black. He drove it for a few weeks anyway and then decided to give it an oil change. Drained less than two quarts of oil out of it... After wondering how it got that low in perhaps 3000 miles, he finished the oil change and he drove it for another few weeks before it spun a rod bearing. He's got a 5.7 Hemi in it now, and oil consumption isn't a problem. :)
Good luck!

I have a 2008 JKU that I purchased with 55K on it. I just turned over 100K and I have had zero issues with the 3.8. I run synthetic 5W30 and typically go through 1/2 a quart of oil between my 3000 mile oil change intervals. I'm also a level 4 Chrysler tech, and believe me folks, this motor may not be a powerhouse, but it has sailed many neglected minivans well over 200K with little to no issues.
I should also note that I purchased it completely stock, and have since done a full AEV JK 350 conversion, and push 37inch tires around daily.

Ha, Ive got a 3.8 and a 5.7 Hemi. The 3.8 in the JKU only has 26,000 and its already starting to let out a puff of white smoke on startup.....and I'm religious about maintenance. I find it worrisome.

The 5.7 is a whole different animal......139k on it, doesnt use a drop of oil or feel like it has ANY miles on it....and it hauls a boat all Summer. 5.7 Hemis are proving to be STOUT motors.

Wow, I had no idea of the horror stories behind that engine, I thought they were just underpowered. Kind of makes you really want a tried and true 4.0 back under the hood....

106000 miles on a bought new 2008 jku and the only think that has been changed other than regular maintance is the gas cap. burns no oil ! and the oil has been changed every 3000 miles since day 1 with 5w20. this is the most reliable jeep that i have owned and trouble free.
