Mountain bike in 2014 Tacoma Short Bed / ARE CX cap

I can't seem to find any definitive answers to this on the web. I am going to be getting a 2014 Tacoma double cab/short bed, and I want to get a cab-high ARE CX cap for it- I want to be able to put my mountain bike in upright, with the fork locked into a quick release mount that will be attached to a piece of wood across the bed.

Per ARE's website, the CX canopy offers 33.5" of clearance on "mini" pickups and 36" of clearance on "mid and full size" pickups. This is, I assume, clearance at the back door, not the inside height of the topper.

Without actually physically putting my bike in the back of a pickup with a CX top, I am having trouble deciding if my bike will fit, with the front wheel removed. I measured the bike on flat ground with the front wheel off, and it is 31", so it SHOULD fit depending on how much height the wood/fork mount adds, but I am curious if anyone has experience with this setup. Length should be no problem, as I measured that too and it is less than 5'.

Thanks for any input. If anyone in the Portland area has a similar setup and would be willing to meet up with me to test it out, I would happily buy you a beer!

I have a 1 gen 5 foot bed and ride 58cm road and 19 inch/Large MTB - I have to lean the bike over to get them in. They didn't fit height wise with my cab high cap. My friend's Taco with the taller cap, his fit with space (he is shorter 53cm road bikes) but I think mine would fit. With the Flippac, mine fit but the "roof" rests on the saddle. I think it will be close, depending on your bike size, if all else fails, use the QR for the seat post. I had to until I got the FP.

In my Gen1 LB/ Jason Fleet cap there was only 29" at the door, but a lot more inside. unless you have things stuffed pretty tight though, you can just tilt the bike inboard to get under there, then return it to upright once inside. FYI- All I ever did to secure the bikes was throw a bungee around the head and back to the rear corner- pokes the end of the bar against the side of the cap and fork found a nice home in the bedliner grooves. never went ANYWHERE.

That's how I transport my mountain bikes, Albeit with a cab high Snug Top Revel. On one of my bikes, I have to remove the seat to get it to fit.
